Faith and healing
    #3621353 -

My brother is a born again Christian. Not a half-assed part timer - he has dedicated his entire life and profession to Jesus. He also suffers from hemachromatosis, a disorder that allows toxic levels of iron to build up in the organs and joints. The only "cure" is to avoid iron-rich foods and to bleed him when his count gets too high.

Naturally, when I question why he cannot call upon the healing power of the Holy Spirit, he has a dozen excuses, but no explanantion why his "faith" has no power whatsoever.

The proof is in the pudding.

like when flaky people with cancer refuse to see a 'western' doctor, and go to a homeopath and get herbs and electrified acupuncture instead, and die six months later, riddled with cancer.

er no, I guess it's not like that really, your brother has prolly looked into 'western' cures hasn't he? religious folks can use any type of health care they want

but you know what I mean

gotta look how he would cope without that faith in the lord. then ask yourself if it is better to have faith in it or not.

what about when people go to see a western doc take all their meds and on there treatments and die of a painful death in under 6 months. still riddled with cancer.
so there is really no difference between the 2

That is fine and well, but the Bible's New Testament specifically talks about HEALING and FAITH not merely coping, yet not one believer that I have ever met is able to demonstrate it. This does not compute... not compute...

well there is a difference. Western medicine is extremely suited to fighting diseases once they manifest, like cancer etc. also suited to reattaching severed arms etc.

"Maybe this herb will help my severed arm reattach! Coupled with acupuncture, and saltwater enema, and that dreadlocked guy playing dijeridoo I've got a fighting chance!"

'eastern' medicine is suited to preventing diseases before they manifest. apparently in China you used to pay your doctor UNTIL you were sick, at which time you stopped paying him because obviously he was failing at his job of keeping you well. once you weren't sick anymore, you commenced paying him again. contrast that with how our doctors ONLY get paid when you are sick. a big incentive for them to make you well??

but it makes me sad when I see hippies utterly denounce 'western' methods of treatment in favour of a piece of flower petal diluted 3,000,000 times in water, or whatever

edit: I guess it's not strictly true that our doctors ONLY get paid when treating patients

you know the only response i can think of is that people will believe inthings, it doesnt always mattter if they are right or wrong.

why should that matter to you since you are not the one that is beleiving?
having a beleive in something that helps you cope with things is better to have no beleif and not coping.

thelast few months in pain, agony and dellusional

does it make you happy when little Jimmy gets a bone marrow transplant, and now he can run and play with the other little bastards?

or your grampa gets a hip replacement and his quality of life skyrockets?

does it make you happy that people feel fit and healthier practicing eastern medicine?

there is always to sides to the coin just don't see one side of the coin. there is always pro's and cons just don't state the ones that make your point a view seem stronger.

uh, hi, remember me, I'm the one who posted

Western medicine is extremely suited to fighting diseases once they manifest

and

'eastern' medicine is suited to preventing diseases before they manifest

that IS both sides of the coin, before and after.

really? hmm so you interpret my post as heavily biased towards a 'western' point of view? is that correct?

edit: yes it makes me extremely happy when people feel healthy and vibrant, full of life when practicing 'eartern' medicine.

here's a point:

one doesn't practice 'western' medicine in the same way that one can practice 'eastern'

what's that about? I guess that same thing of Preventative versus nonPreventative (whats the opposite of 'preventative'?)

You really exept the faith of the avarage man to be strong enough to heal cancer?

Does your brother believe that faith alone can heal all disease?

Once, men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free.
But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

I expect people to utilize or abandon their beliefs, not apologize for why they have no power.
