I'm actually about an hour west of Chicago. And I doubt we would know each other...I just moved here 4 months ago. Haven't been to a single midwest party. In fact haven't been to a party since 2002, when I went to the Love Parade in Berlin. I went to partys from 1996 until 2001, and those were all on the east coast. I lived like 1.5 hours away from both NYC and Philly, so those were my spots. If you know of any GOOD parties in Chi-Town, please tell me! I'd actually like to check out a good mid-west rave.

We have something very similar in Australia which is quickly gaining a greater following than raves.
It is called a "doof", which is basically an outdoor rave. The name comes from the sound of psytrance pumping in the distance, the tell-tale "DOOF DOOF DOOF!" They are usually held out in the country or in picturesque locations, which adds an entirely new dimension to the experience as opposed to being holed up in a hot, sweaty warehouse.
The people that frequent these events are usually of the beatnick/hippy kind, not the pill-popping pimple farm teens. I get the feeling that PLUR means more to these people than it does to the city-folk, who as someone said, are more than likely filled with more E than PLUR.
Also, these are VERY spiritual events. I can guarantee you that not one single person goes there solely for the purpose of enjoying the music. There seems to be a synergistic effect between being in natural surrounds, listening to the beats and stomping your feet! On a number of occasions my friend has experienced OBE's and saw a "group energy" that was very palpable and extremely pleasant to behold.
There is also an over-abundance of drugs (more of the psychedelic disposition as opposed to powders/pills).
The vibe and energy at these events are of a completely different nature to raves, which place more of an emphasis on eye-candy than growth and spirituality.
But anyway, each to their own!
