I used to go to raves a lot in Chicago. A lot of X. Fun and dancing. There not the same anymore though, at least not here. Its like $35 to get into a party now, plus too many club kids. I remember when it used to be like $10 for a bad ass warehouse party.  :mushroom2: Those were the days......

I think I need to go to a rave. It all seems very enticing to me on one level, but on an another I feel to stiff and reserved. Too much control. I think that's why I should check one out and eat this E that I've had sitting the last 2 months.

Oh wow! like 40 something hours later and im still glowing from the experience.

absolutely. i only danced for about an hour and a half, maybe 2 hours. i danced like a maniac though. but for the rest of the rave i just talked, talked and communicated, with damn near everyone there. So many cool people! sure alot of it was drug talk and the drugs helped open us up, but i still met some people im sure to see again and who i feel genuine appreciation of.

people hook ups! girl hookups and (maybe) guy hookups, plus just friend hook ups. Of course, if you make friends with drug people your going to get some drug hook ups along the way, which is an added bonus, but i already have lots of those.

i would disagree with you. i go for the music, definetly (i loved it) but for so much more. i go for the people, for the light show, for the spectacle, for the atmosphere, for the drugs.

i disagree entirely! a rave is all those things and more! if you dont think a rave is a fashion show, youve been going with your eyes closed! you think these people dress that way normally?! its a time to let loose, experiment, including with your outfit. i just wore my regular clothes, then took most of them off. If you think it isnt a social club, why werent you socializing? i spent HOURS just talking.

dude, do it! you sound exactly like me 40 hours ago! i put off going for so long thinking i was too stiff, to uptight. Withing 5 seconds of getting in the door that notion went out the window. Now long after ive come down i find music just moves me, i dance uncontrollably around the house when i hear tunes. I hang loose, i crave people!

the E can really open the floodgates but i think this one at least really left a lasting effect, although its a bit early to say.

exactly how i felt, i was getting tired of all my regular scenes. then i turned on to the raves. it may not be as deep as it first appears but i sure find it a hell of alot deeper than any gangster rap. Raves might not be as golden as they once were, but this one was more than i could have hoped for. they certainly aint dead!

this one was 35 bucks, next one is only ten.

i dont give a shit if most of those kids dont follow that outside of raves or when not on E! i really dont! im still making it part of my credo and im hoping to meet some more people who do!

I didn't go to socialize, or show off my clothes, or to do drugs. That's why raves weren't a social club, fashion show, or drug spot to me. If thats what you see it as, that's your perspective.

I went to connect with the music I love. I went to hear my favorite dj's throw it down, and to stay on top good music. I don't care if I see someone's freaky outfit, or meet some E-tard trying to get a hug. I just wanted to hear bangin' music. When the "rave" environment became inconducive for that, I said fuck it, and bought my own turntables, mixer, and records and for the past 3 years have been playing music just for myself and my friends. I've never looked back. If you find something cathartic about raves, good for you. But I still think you miss the point.

I guess so. It just bums me out to know what parties have become as opposed to what they were.  Back when I was going the scene had a different philosophy, another mentality. 

Moonshoe, don't let me discourage you from going to raves (it doesn't sound like anything could!).  We just have different ideas of what makes a party worthwhile.  I do take comfort in the fact that people still get a kick out of raves.  I know that post-party afterglow you're experiencing.  Whatever tickles your pickle, man.  Have fun at your next party! :dancing: :lol:

right on! i used to love to go to a rave, but the whole scene has all been washed out and played out abit too much, for my liking. at least at the last few ones that i went to and dj dan, icey, and baby ann were there,  and they are 3 of my favs.
  i really enjoyed tortoise's ambience and sector 9's trance inducing beats for the new year's bash, though. the tabernacle had the traditional rave set-up, too. and it felt like the beginnings of my rave days again. it was nice.
  anyway, mmw are some bad-assed jammers, also. i have had the honor of seeing them twice now, and they have put on a great and unique show each time. :thumbup: :thumbup:

wrestler_az, to me the ONLY thing is the music at a rave; everything else is peripheral. And I know they wouldn't happen w/o it, but it seems to me like some kids wouldn't even notice if the music was gone, as long as the drugs and cuddlepuddles etc. were there. The music used to be the central focus, now it seems to not matter to the people going. They're too caught up in looking cool, poppin' E, trying to "hook up". It's just not STRICTLY for the beats, like it should be (IMO).

thanks for being tolerant!

and dont get me wrong, i LOVE the music. but if it was JUST about the music, i could listen to it all on headphones by myself. i dont know how you could deny what a huge part of it the atmosphere and the people play.

And i wont deny it, i love the visual spectacle and the socializing as much as the music. I mean that to me is just intrinsic to the rave.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

hey electrode, if you are in chicago and you go to parties i would gaurentee that i know you, i have been on the scene for the past 2 ears and went to 2 parties atleast, every weekend for a year...
what croud/dj's do you hang with?

Currently I am working on setting up a make shift fest/rave/party/ho down in Central Florida.  there has been a thread birthed upon this idea through the Gathering and Travel section.  yayuh.

Me and Adamist dont fuck around.  We do the damned thing.

And do it well at that.
