Those days are over... at least around here.
My first outdoor rave was something like that. A shitty little printed black and white paper with a phone# info line. Snuck out of the house to get picked up by friends to drive to the middle of nowhere, texas. I Arrived and it was ravers, cowshit, and a huge bowl shaped hole in the ground where a dried lakebed used to be with the dj stand and lighting at the highest rim.
Now its all "electronic music festivals" and club events. there are still underground outdoor parties like the psytrance stuff but you still pay to get in. I think its rare that i don't pay to get in because i know how much work and effort it takes to pull that shit together. Eventually people stop being kids and become adults that have to make money, so parties get cover charges, headliners, investers ect.
It's still underground free psytrance parties around here
I wanna go to Belgium, the parties there are supposed to be nuts

Yeah, free parties don't exist- except for one, "Word of Mouth". No flyers though, details are spread through word of mouth, and they give free acid at the party.
But besides that, AINT shit free- desert parties go from $5-10

Lots of FREE parties over here, man. All word of mouth. The first one I went to, there was a guy with like a 6 pint bottle of liquid acid, dosing people for free.

They are different things, organized legal events tend to have more interesting music, higher quality speakers and more decorations. Raves have a shitload of speakers with the bass ridiculously loud, everyone gets a lot more fucked and raves harder, on the other hand they can be sketchy and you can get some dodgy people. I think I prefer raves, just. It's more fun sneaking over fields to get around the police and sticking two fingers up to the government, plus most of the people love raving you don't get any people just on a night out.

i started going to warehouse and field parties around dallas in the mid 90's when i was in high school. i was a total wall flower and hung with people who for the most part weren't my friends. i ended up getting in a lot of trouble for drugs at age 19 and took a step back from it for a few years. during that down time i got into d&b and that 90's trip hop/downtempo sound along with turntablists and other odds and ends. i got my life together, got my first real job and moved out on my own with my best friend at 21. we started going out again about a year after that and got back into the scene and took up dj'ing. it was a whole new world for me. i met a lot of really great people and wouldn't have the huge group of friends i have today without the scene. i feel very grateful for having been able to participate in several major aspects of dfw rave/electronic music culture over the years.
i rarely get out now to events and my musical tastes have dramatically changed in some senses, but i'm getting into school for music and intend on making a career out of writing, selling and performing electronic music. i think my art is what my life's work will be.

This happened to me recently and I'm still mad as hell at myself for it. I remember the DJ sets being insane, but I can hardly remember any of the specifics.
I think I'm only gonna be attending two more events for the summer since my money is about to get tight again.

i just got back from a random rave(out law) it was fucking awesome tho i have seen way better sound quality it was nice to be at something that size with that many fresh new ppl and jus good vibes all around....
except for a fight that was old ravers that had bull shit drama cause they pretty much fuck each other over for money left and right. they need to learn not to bring their shit to a outlaw...
oh it also was a bit less fun when the dj went on before i left he played hard house that just sounded the same for more then an hour it was like please play something new dammit. it went from DJ odi to that it wasnt cool.
DJ odi still throws down and its good

Looks like a beautiful place...But what's up with all that trash?...
I know raves/gatherings can get messy but damn, sure hope it was all picked up when everything was over with...
All the outdoor gatherings/camp outs i attend are strictly pack in, pack out, and leave no trace. Down to every cigarette butt...
