the rave culture is dead? my question is..what culture??

there most definitely was a culture, and there are most definitely remanants here and there of this culture. we had our own language, music, activities, fashion, traditions, even spirtuality [or at least some of us]...and then it just kinda collapsed after peaking around 2000/2001.

disco scene? when was the last time a whole bunch of disco groups decided to break out with albums for say over a 5-10 year span? I still see DJ's coming out with albums non stop. and even newer sub-genre's appearing that is pushing electronic music further...musically speaking.

disco records were still coming out in the 80s. they didnt sell. dj records still come out today, but as the article showed, sales have been down sharply (and I presume are still down today).

as a huge fan of electronic music, I can say the subgenres that are pushing the envelope today are radically moving away from the typical dance cliches...boomboomboom cheese kinda music. I would not consider this music "rave" music - it has grown too far distant from the rave.

true - I was listening to charlie parker today. RIP bebop 50s era scene...

This is so true. I have all these killer electro records that I love, but could never imagine listening to them in a "rave"-type setting. It just shows that even the music has grown away from the scene.

Buy Turntables?  These artists that perform hardly release half of what they create on Vinyl...they save most of it for there live shows.  I wouldnt consider these guys abonding the culture...its just like what you said, alternating factors point them in different directions and Im sure they might be taking these nifty articles written in mags like URB seriously.  Everybody pursues money----Im happy these guys still produce records with all the other money making opportunities they can very well infest all their time into. They still put on badass sets at parties and the atmosphere/lighting/staging/100db+ sound that rattles my liver also has alot to do with my interest in festivals/raves.  There is alot more to do during Spring break than go to a electronic festival as well.....first off, that thing down there is 50-55 to get in.  People can get into a bar for free and get just as much ass then at this event.  There are other motivating factors to attend Ultra then just it being during spring break.

First of all..... EDUCATION:  DOCUMENTARY

Now i have no intention to play Mr.smart ass here but....most of the opinions in this thread are valid only for the us

For the last 6 years i have been travelling all around the globe to participate in psychedelic gatherings that have spread rapidly throughout Europe,Australia, N.Z, Japan, parts of south America, and that now begin to blossom, in that last bastion of change, the U.S.A.

The evolution of these type of festivals varies from country to country. In europe for example there is  voov experience,  a open air festival that is being held for the last 15 years, and each year thousands of freaks from all over the world meet to celebrate love peace & dance.

There is no line up ever announced (surprise surprise!) and it is always kept secret untill the festival begins. There are no sponsors either! Just to keep it pure.Together with the festivals evolution, people evolve too, so you can meet quite interesting evolved humans over there.(Some shroomerites too!)

And this is only one small example of whats happening out of the usa, in Australia the unity and experience of ravers is even greater imo,, festivals are multiplying and everything is been like that for many many years now,

Goa, India, a place where such partys are happening since the 70's and is still (altho really touristic now  :frown: ) banging parties for thousands of freaks.

It is one evolutionary process that has never stopped, i recommend the documentary "last hippy standind" and Liquid crystal vision" It shows clearly the continuation of the hippy movement into the cyber psychonaut era

Beware
Those who came into this scene only for fun, soon go away and forget all about it.The people who find deeper values in these meetings are the ones with stick to it, and are the most intresting to watch.

Check out any global party network, the partys and festival just multiply steady and rapidly the last decade or so, it is a re-evolution.

Mc kenna has said all of these before waaaaay better than me, i feel i need to copy paste him, anyway, i ll try to make this simple

HUUUUGE FESTIVALS......MILLIONS OF SHROOMERS.......OPENED UP MINDS.....SUBCONCIOUS COLLECTIVE......SHARED EXPERIENCES......ENLIGHTMENT THRU SENSITIVITY CAUSE BY THE PSYCHEDELICS TOWARDS THE PLANETARY NEEDS AND THE LOVE, CHANGES THE PERCEPTION, EVOLUTIONARY PART OF OUR SPIRITS

I couldn't have said it better! Raves are like church to the techno psychadelic spiritualists.. If you don't get it, don't go just to sneer at how it's dead, They are about love, transcendence, and dance..

Thirdly, Many of the top electronic musicians are also hired as sound designers and composers for big time record labels to help on tracks that people buy in the millions (just to name a few: BT is all over NSYNC?s album and PVD just made a track for Jessica Simpson) DO I like these tracks?.. NO but it is what brings in the money.

yeah, that is disgusting. when i make it big (hopefully :sun:), you wont ever catch my shit in pop culture garbage. hell, i could give 2 shits about the money, as long as i can have enough money for a roof over my head and food, thats all i need.

so true. i hear theres less and less parties in goa now, but from what i read about the good ol days (having to follow hords of scooters to find the parties), it would have been heaven :sun: the USA needs parties like that, not commercial crap people whip up to make a quick buck. they should be free, with musicians who do it for the love of making music, sending the crowd into hyperspace, and having a great fucking time. not $, never $. $ is evil!

id sure love to throw a few forest parties up here in new england, no flyers or anything, just word of mouth. unfortunately i dont got much sound equipment, or anything to make the parties a reality. maybe some day :sun:

as for happy hardcore... pretty much the stereotypical electronic music to a T. repetative, annoying crap. some of it isnt bad, but thats maybe 0.0001% of it. dont get me started with gabba...  :frown:

most raves i go to these days are in established music venues and dancehalls. these are fun events, and what most consider the rave scene. well it is, but a underground scene exists. you just fall into it when you start meeting people in the scene. plenty of 'parties' as we say, with electronic music. the term rave is so loosely defined. like two weeks ago, there was this outlaw, on private property, in the woods upstate. djs under canopy, fire pit, etc. a few weeks ago, there was a incredible house party. kegs, doses, shrooms, molly, and there was a line to cook licks of k on the stove. no one ever has nitrous tanks anymore though...

but rave is such a loosely defined term. whether its a house party, club party, bar party, or outdoor, if i'm going to dance to djs and party, its a rave
