Last time I checked there was no "rave" music at all. If a bunch of people get together at a semilegal/illegal venue and dance to any type of electronic music, thats a rave in my book.
Raves are the most misunderstood and misrepresented scenes in existence. From people who just don't "get" techno, to mainstream media on their crusade to find what's corrupting the youth of America, the rave scene has been smeared since they found out about it.
Sorry about that rant (I guess this means I fall into the "jaded" category of ravers). If anyone's in the Seattle/Northwest area and knows of a good rave scene, let me know. I'm always on the lookout.

this is just my personal opinion but psytrance and psychedelic drum&bass is pretty much the most progressive and complex electronic music around. the musical structure is very intricate, and some of the sounds are very organic, despite being from a synthesizer.
i feel though that the genre has been highjacked into this cookie cutter scheme of "dark". i dont know why, but i guess i have been kind of musically brainwashed into leaning towards more dark twilight style psytance because thats all everyone plays around here. we like it dark in texas.

ha ha yeah people call semi legal parties raves, which they are in a great sense. I have been to a few good ones and a few crap ones. i really like psytrance tho somewhere along the line while listening and dancing it gets to me and i go insane. I do love to dance to good techno music drum and bass included of course. Tho i dont really know if i can call what i do dancing as its more so jumping up and down the important thing it makes me feel fantastic.
long live good techno and down with minimalistic.

I dislike that music really. My main genres of favor are Electro house and dnb (for rave dancing)
If all goes as planned Ill be going to shambles this year.

I like dnb, pystrance and minimalist techno the most of "rave music". I'm not much of a raver, I try to go to about 3-4 raves a year though, good times.

For me it's : DNB, psytrance, house, trance(only if it's amazing). I was really into trance when I was 15-16. 200 pills and 3 years later, I got BURNT the fuck out....
I'm real down with DNB. LTJ Bukem. Black Sun Empire. Those dudes are my heroes and always will be.
Big ups to Danny Williamson(LTJ Bukem)

Trance-y tunes are all well and good, but I'm more in favor of something minimalist... something broken.

Thats in bristol in the United Kingdom, it was an immense party, i just barely remember listening to this, while everything started to slow down to a halt, and then realizing i didnt even have my eyes open and was just standing somewhere. Awesome awesome stuff.
If you have ever tried nitrous(balloons) while tripping, then you can imagine how mad it is at a psytrance rave.

Almost all my friends are Ravers or involved in the rave culture in some way. My X girlfriend is a Candy Kid.
Whenever i hang out with them they are always talking about raves, making candy, dancing around and listening to techno. HOwever the whole idea of a "Fake" induced world to escape in to doesnt appeal to me. I know not everyone is "Escaping" but the way ive seen people eat up raving its sad really. Some people make the rave culture their LIFE! and that amazes me, whatever makes ya happy though right? I like dnb though i will admit.
Sometimes i feel left out and even alone because not only am i not apart of the rave scene, but deep down it doesnt intrest me and all my friends live for it.
However there are times when im sober and going through a long walk in a forested area and i caint help but smile as i feel so good inside. While i think about where ever my mind takes me i caint help but smile inside as i look around at the trees and say to myself
"This is my rave"

I do really enjoy the whole psytrance scene, it can get addictive when there are lots of events, or lots of your friends are going.
Its an amazing way to meet new people and enjoy good times. Its also good to meet like minded people and continue adventures and missions outside of the rave scene.

I kind of agree with you, but a lot of psytrance is shit and a lot of other genres are just as complex. I really think you can't compare entire genres with other genres, you really have to go song to song, artist to artist.

I have done nitrous and E. What's nitrous and mushrooms like?

a lot of psytrance is shit? sure there are bad artists and releases in every genre but i feel the vast majority of psytrance is very painstakingly produced. the structure is much like that of classical music. its not a genre you can easily oversaturate because not a lot of people can meet the standard of sound engineering it takes to make music that is truly psychedelic. please feel free to expound on psy artists that you feel make "shit" music. id like to gather your opinion on this. .
true, its hard to compare entire genres, but i'm just talking from a growth standpoint in comparison to other rave music genres. the psy scene has exploded over the past 10 years, and artists are constantly pushing the sound to new standards. drum and bass is like this too, but a lot other electronic music genres just seem to have plateaued out in terms of progression and are watered down as musical markets. especially house, techno, and trance. a lot of music in the rave scene has become generic and boring. anyone can shell out a house track in 5 minutes using samples and loops in Reason 4.0

heh yeah, i encourage anyone that thinks a certain type of music is "shit" to come up with and produce their own, how much better can YOU do? in my experience theres people just in it for the music/crowds and there's people just in it for money.
