Faith is Rememberance.
    #3455443 -

How do you define "faith"?

When great religious and spiritual men speak of FAITH, most men think "Oh, that means I'm supposed to blindly agree"

I disagree.

I have come to learn after much work in this life that FAITH is just rememberance.

For instance, say you are REALLY, REALLY sick. Your divorced, unhappy, unhealthy, etc. Faith is remembering that things havent ALWAYS been this bad, and that at some point, things will probably get better. Without faith, you are lost in the darkness, but with faith you can remember things used to be, and probably will someday, be great again.

I view faith as sticking in there, and remembering your roots. Having faith in the divine, is remembering what you are, where you came from, etc.

I have FAITH in humanity, because I know that history has shown we have been in horrible situations before.

I have FAITH in cockroaches, because I know they have survived for millions of years.

I have FAITH in God, because I remember moments of my life where I've been shown miraculious things, and had wonderful experiences and said "GOD I LOVE YOU, I NOW KNOW YOU EXIST, and I WILL NEVER FORGET"

I have FAITH in my family, because even though they piss me off, I know they have helped me through hard times.

I have FAITH that weed will get me high, because it has gotten me high before.

does this make sense?

faith is the intention to leap over logic
knowing in advance that the belief you put your faith in
will serve some purpose
not necessarily the one needed,
but socially it might be acceptible regardless.

George Bush has been "elected" (we believe) president twice on platforms of social expediency - radical leaps over logic
intentional gaps in mentation.
short cut thinking etc...

I agree with you man. To me faith is something that can't be pegged down or boxed in by logic, which really infuriates and/or scares some people.

I have faith that everything that happens is happening exactly as it is supposed to-- it's a great unfoldment.
We are following DNA coding, which is God's will (or existence's, if you don't like the G word...)

Why do I think this? My own experience, which is all any of us really have when it comes to matters such as these.

Faith is remembering that things havent ALWAYS been this bad, and that at some point, things will probably get better.

Many things deteriorate and never improve. This is called entropy and is a fact of life. When a loved one dies, I do not have faith that they will come back to life. All the positive thinking and hope in the world will have no effect on this. Lose a limb or an eye or hearing or mobility, how will remembering having a healthier body help? Sounds like it may create even more anguish and longing. Get robbed? No magic thoughts will ever regain what was stolen.

The proof is in the pudding.

What you defined sounds more like belief.

Belief is based on pre-existing knowledge or memories, and puts hope in something because of those memories.

Faith is the act of letting go. The acting of opening yourself completely to whatever truth that will reveal itself. Faith is not based on memory. It involves letting go of those memories and beliefs to be in a state of vulnerability where anything can happen.

As Alan Watts put it - Belief clings, faith lets go. And that involves letting go of god.
