The information age

Never before have humans had access to such a vast amount of information as we do now through the Internet. I mean a couple of minutes searching using google you can find the recipe for sarin gas and will know how to make any number of mind altering substances. Will all this information have a positive or detrimental effect on society? is controlling this form of media (as with every other form of media) the next step on the 'free' America's agenda? They say ignorance is bliss, so does this information age mean less happiness and more depression? Humans try to make there lives easier but in doing so just make things more complicated i mean in nomadic times was life so much simpler. I guess what I'm trying to say here is do you think the information age will bring about more than technological ideas, do you think it will bring about a new age of consciousness a better understanding of our fellow man and what humanity really needs rather that what humanity wants? I'm sorry if this post makes no sense or I'm just talking BS to you but i would appreciate your opinion on this matter.

It is an interesting problem... information overload. As the internet grows, the world gets smaller and smaller. Can mankind mature enough to prevent armageddon before the unethical use of technology kills us all off? Time will tell, but if history is any indication, I don't have a lot of hope for our future.

I've been wondering, after coming accross the concept of the "Vingian Singularity", if the Internet is progressing towards a form of artificial intelligence. We could be acting as a super-large "brain" of sorts.
A brain is a large interconnected network of neurons, each of which is capable of making a "decision" based on the input provided.
The internet is a large interconnected network of people, each of which is capable of making decisions based on the input provided.
Will the internet, and the users connected to it, "wake up" one day and become conscious on a large scale? Interesting idea

Interesting trendal, the Internet as the future of our evolution. Similar to the Borg from star trek.

I plan on being one of the first in line to have my consciousness uploaded into a computer.
Bring on the Transhumanism!

Well I hope I would still be able to retain my concept of Self and understand that I used to be a "mere human"

Evolution requires advancement or death.
In this case me thinks it will lead to our death.

Evolution requires advancement or death.
No, it just requires death. As one species dies off, others will rise to fill in the niche left in the ecosystem.
Humans will become extinct, I bet, at some distant point in the future. It could happen a lot sooner if we manage to invent AI...which is why I say I'll be one of the first in line to upload my consciousness into the AI.
I want to take the next step.
