Shrunk mushrooms in honey - please help!!!

I'v put some fresh mushrooms in honey to have them stored for couple of days before the rest of my cakes fruits. After couple of hour I have noticed they have shrunk. They have probably lost water through osmosis. My question is: Could they lose also part of the psilocybin content along with water? My theory is that psilocybin as a hydrophobic substance is not dissolved in water thus cannot cross cell membrane/wall along with the osmotic flow of water. What do you think - should I put them out of the jar? f the psicybin were in honey already it could not be consumed all at once as it is some 300grams (more than 1/2 pint).

I think you made this more difficult then it needed to be. why not just let them dry while you wait? or paper bag them in the refrigerator?

Fresh mushrooms in honey never worked well for me. The preserving power of honey is its high osmolarity, which diminishes as fresh fruits give their water up.

Depends on how many you store, I suppose, but the few times I've tried it with fresh fruits the honey gets much more fluid, and indeed can spoil.

If I were to do it now, I'd only use dry fruits. Pulverized--assuming the honey is going to be eaten, whole if you're going to try fishing them out later.

The above information is complete fiction.

make a mushroom tea with that honey. Mine always shrink in the honey as well. I use canning jars to store mine. fill it with as many mushrooms as possible. Then let the honey slowly drip over the mushrooms as you fill it. Fill it as close to full as possible so no O2 is left, seal the jar. They should last indefinatly at this point from what I have read but I always end up eating mine within 4 or 5 months of doing this or give them out to friends. We usually make a shroom tea from the honey stored mushrooms. Delicous!

I've heard that the moisture in the fresh shrooms will cause the honey to spoil. They should only be added when they are as dry as possible.
