19 jars,pf tek,brf,verm.1/2 pt..2 jars appear to have white balls coming off cakes(little cottonballs) ,it is 85% colonized .these two cakes are the same strain (gt) and have shrunk quit a bit wich i dont understand. all other 17 jars have not shrunk and there is plenty of moisture in jars (droplets everywhere) and have already succesfully birthed two .incubate temps around 85-88.any input anyone?THANK YOU ,JIM

that sounds very wierd, i have not the slightest idea. when you were putting the substrate in the jars did you pack it in?

Hmmmmm, i have noticed that some of my cakes have shrunk a little bit over the course of 23 days. but if there is no contamination present and they are almost done i would say do not worry about it to much. May have something to do w/ moisture content. As for the white puff balls....cobweb mold is the only thing i can think of w/o a pic. Get a digi. it will make your life a lot easier here. DO they smell bad?

can cob web mold appear as a very small cotton balls, very (white also),there is definately mycellium growth all over. havent smelled, its only these two jars out of 17 so i would say my prep was not the case.the funny thing is these jars are whiter than all the others.also i have a mycobag with the same strain that is also very white and whiter than my other bagsBAD SYRINGE or just normal for strains to be whiter than others COULD I DUNK A LITTLE EARLY w/a bleach solution?,then put back in dark till mycellium is finished

i wouldnt recommend it if your cakes are almost done then i would just let them be. as for some of the jars showing a not-so-white mycellium i would not worry too much, as long as it is indeed mycellium you should be fine. some of my goldenteacher jars are faint white while my aussie's are very white. But all are doing fine. If it is cobweb it will take over here in the next few days. I would let em be. 2 jars is nothing compared to 17 and i'd say you are doing well.
