Metallic Sensation On Tongue While Meditating?

Has anyone experienced this? I often get while meditating and sometimes when I'm startled by something. Also when I wake up in the morning, I sometimes feel it.

I'd describe it as a cross between putting a penny in your mouth and touching the ends of a 9v battery to your tongue, but not quite as strong as either of them.

Any ideas on what could cause it? I'm certainly not complaining! It's kind of interesting.

Well I take a centrum almost everyday, aside from that, I can't think of anything I eat that would contain an excess amount of zinc.

Ive had a few wierd expierences where ill see somting and or associate somthing to a heavy trip and it sends my head thru a loop thinking about it for a second and ill get the metal taste. Its wierd.

Hmm, I guess there's countless considerations possible. If you were startled after daydreaming, and if you'd consider meditating a form of daydreaming, daydreaming itself runs on the same 90ish minute rhthym as REM oscillation during sleep, and when you're experiencing it after waking it makes consonance. Possibly a minor synthesis from the brain where taste sensation was not possible in the previous mental state brinking on the edge of consciousness. Conversely, typically you're in REM before you wake, and I've never heard of no dreaming in a daydream.
As said before, it could be an association to a particularly potent trip, though I haven't personally been bothered by anything as gustation, only visual annoyances. What could happen is given the right cue, the brain associates a specific stimulus with a pattern, and usually not overtly, generates a simple hallucination, and I'd guess when the condition's right it could put you in an incoherent moment of reality.
Also you hear of those sensory crossovers people experience. Probably not like hearing velvet or tasting a B flat by a flute, which would be due to your own unique brain chemistry. More like where sensory stimuli have complex connections allowing something like a barbecue reminds you of some early memory, it's just that we're not clear on if and what underlines that particular occurance, though this would be suggesting such brain chemistry to frequent.

When you sit and do nothing, you are allowing your body and it's energies to centre themselves, to move freely without being called into attention toward this or that. During these times your body will work to correct it's imbalances. It is normal to experience odd sensations or even impromptu thoughts during this time. Do not allow yourself to become distracted, but do not distract yourself in the will not to become distracted.

I always get a sensation like that when i trip, especially on acid. I've never gotten it while meditating though.

i also get the metal taste in my mouth when i concentrate too hard. i haven't found any good explenation for what it is. sometimes its so strong that i feel like i have a mouth full of blood or something.

I usually get this when meditating as well, and as others have said,
I can relate this to a trip experience on LSD, where I am pretty
sure i crossed over to another dimension and balanced out on that
level. Cus my visuals synced in a way, and I could read energies
that i normally couldn't. Everything was in synch, and it felt as if
I was sending and receiving signals on a faster frequency.

I read somewhere, not sure where- that this tongue sensation is a sign of DMT release from the brain, and the pineal gland. Although, it is not proven that the pineal gland produces DMT in humans, but it is proven that it do in rats.

I wonder what they published for those tests supposedly performed at Dr. Steven Barker’s laboratory at Louisiana State University, and where and when was it published?

I can see why Cottonwood would fund the work and announce the publication... (but maybe it never was published)

I have expereanced soooo many strange things meditating..  It doesnt supprise me.. keep rolling, lr dont, but then it wouldnt really matter, would it?

Between my first hit of Windowpane LSD to this scene from The Matrix, I learned that the Quicksilver (Living Silver) or Mercury of the Alchemists, means Consciousness, Spirit is the archaic term. When Mercury (Spirit) predominates over Sulphur (Mind) and Salt (Body), you will experience the electric/electronic/conductive/neuronal and perhaps ozone-smelling nature of the Hyper-pranic awakened state. On a mega-dose of acid, you too will "Pop," as Cypher said just before Neo puked. If in meditation, the Kundalini rises all the way before your system is sufficiently pure, this movie metaphor will materialize for you too. In the meantime, consider the Caduceus of Mercury - a map of your chakra ladder, and the "metallic taste" as a herald (as Mercury is the herald of the gods) of things to come.
