Pan Subbs bugs, maggots....help
    #3000964 - 08/13/04 03:37 PM (12 years, 3 months ago)

Well recently I've been finding loads of pan subbs fruiting in this horse ranch I go to. Well my question is a lot of times these have these little gnat like thins in them or they have maggots. How do I rid them of my mushrooms?

Just eat them anyways, maggots never killed anyone. But if you're a bug phobe, just dry them.

Blowing in the gills will get rid of the bugs in the gills. If I find a mushroom with a cap thats just too nasty, I'll cut the cap off and keep the stem.

What I like to do is dip mushrooms down in cold water, this get's most of the bugs out... if they are pretty badly torn up, Dry them, this fixed everything!...kinda

I have had this issue from time to time. Ill be laying a mushroom in front of me, then I see a couple things crawl out of it :\. The main reason I dont like using water is due to the fact that that the active ingredients are water soluable. I suppose just putting it in water for a short time wouldnt be bad though.

The only actives Ive found are pann subbs, and usually I dont think I have much a problem with this. When I do however, I just throw them in the blender and pretend it wasnt even there :P. I mean, unless its pretty nasty, in which I wouldnt do it, but otherwise you'll never know the difference.

Then again, I have yet to trip (Ive always given them to others)..so if I did it then I would kinda know what is in there. I dont think Id really care though. I suppose Ill find out soon enough when I finally do try it out .
