Pan Subb find in Ma

Alright this is my first time posting in here for a while i have been viewing these forums for about 3 years now. But anyway today i went fishing at this farm pond near my home in Western Massachusetts. When i drove down the dirt road toward the farm pond i noticed several compost piles which looked and smelt like it was manure. when walked up to it it looked like a mix of wood chips/horse manure/straw. when i walked around the piles for a little while i noticed all the mushrooms fruting everywhere. i was surprised. i rememeber seeing a few people in upstate new york claim they found pan subbs or mushrooms that resemble them. so i started to look around for panelous looking mushrooms. (ones with black sporeprints) I found mostly inky caps and most of there caps have melted away but then i found several mushrooms with black spore prints that looked just like pan foen but are 4x bigger. im almost postive these are pan subbss. i took all that i could find and brought them home and now they are drying. but on futher inspection of the shrooms i noticed lots of bugs in the gills. how do i get rid of these. i really wanna try these subbs and see how potent they are.Any info or comments are welcome.
Pash

I'm guessing you have no cam? I (many other shoomerites) would feel a lot better to positively ID them before you ingest- but if you are 100% sure go for it then.
Do the caps have white fringes around them? (telltale sign of subbs)

no cam for me... if i can find one ill take some pics but..well i grew cubes inside for about 2 years now i kinda know the smell of active mushrooms i know that sounds dumb but o well. these shrooms have bands around the outside of the caps and have jet black spore prints, the stems are hollow and are pretty thick. my best description is its like a large version of a pan foen.

im almost positive these are pan subbs. If i wan't 99% sure i wouldn't even think of eating these things. i just wanted to post something on here to give people in mass some spirit to go and look for these shrooms . now they know there are active shrooms around the mass area.

whats my best bet on eating these things should i dry them or leave them wet. when ever i eat my home grown shrooms i usually get stomach aches and even sometimes vomit. would i have even more trouble with pan subbs?

This is a nice thread.
massholetoker - I am probably one of the members on here that you saw from upstate NY picking pan subbs. By the description of the habitat and mushrooms, I'd say they are definitely pan subbs. The maggots in the gills are bastards man, they will eat away alot of the mushroom. Last year I used to pick them out with tweezers and smash the fuckers but this year there haven't been many in my mushrooms, I would say take Mr. Mushrooms advice and kill them in an oven. If you get the chance, I reccomend a fresh pan subb trip. Eat about 1.5 or 2 fresh ounces and you'll have a great time, very visual and pleasant. I have harvested about 1.5 dry ounces so far this year, and I still haven't gotten around to eating any. They taste pretty bad dry. I think I am going to make tea...but, haha, you are going to laugh, I don't know exactly how!
How do you make mushroom tea? I've heard that you aren't supposed to bring the tea to a boil or something. I know it is a stupid question but I would appreciate an answer. Thanks guys!

ps - try to get some pics!!!!!!

Cool! The bugs are no big deal..we ate two big ass bags of fresh shrooms and just ignored the fact they had bugs in 'em....they're good for you! Protein!
