What happens if you skip misting for a day or two?
They are unlikely to dry out.
Poor air circulation.ц

Yeah exactly! Besides, Semperviva was the first name, right? If I discover some animal that doesn’t ring a bell and start to call it a snoutblob, and then someone realises that it is actually not a new species and that it’s named already, that doesn’t mean the old name elephant is suddenly deprecated.

Spot on bro! It's the OG name and the most suiting so I refuse to call it Subtropicalis because it almost feels like insulting our dear Semperviva:lol:

They'll become angry and attack you out of pure spite. For the love of God do not mistreat them...:uhoh:

Jokes aside they will survive if you skip one day but they like a high Rh so try to avoid it if you want them to grow optimally.

What’s the highest temperature ceiling for fruiting subtropicalis?

Heading into summer here and not sure whether to run some of these or just stick to pan cyans.

Glad we're all in agreement on this

It's like here's a mushroom with the coolest name ever...why don't we give it
an uncool name? Uhhh nope.

Hmm maybe it's the nutrients? Never thought of trying that but man now I'm curious:lol: otherwise I do the same except with a top layer and a slightly tighter spawn ratio at around 1:2- 1:3.

I have no idea how I came up with this, but I decided to case as soon as the surface was colonized. So, no top layer
because I wanted to see the surface growth. Casing early is just like a "hey little buddies, why don't you come up this way?"
I had the idea that a top layer would just get in the way of all of this and slow things down.

On one of my grows, I waited until I started to see pin formation before casing and that was a mistake. Uneven flush and a lot of janky fruits.

I keep the casing on the dry side until the pins are established. Then I am misting 3 times a days - a good soak, too.

I am curious what everyone else is seeing. I am getting pins way before the sub is fully colonized. It's pinning and colonizing the sub all
the same time over here.

I have no luck germinating my semperviva spores from '19, tried agar and brf
Looking for a kind soul, preferably from europe to send me a print, i have something to trade.

Also a question, do semps mind if temps fluctuate , lets say 16-22°c? lower during night

@Asura I can second your results of casing after pins have already arrived, jankier fruits, lesser flush.

My tub 'Ecco' from spore I have uncased RN. Unhappiest lookin first flush I experienced. It's an experimental tub anyway with high % wood in the sub, so the matted surface has made any patches of raw coir uptop preferable/feasible for fruiting I reckon. With verm, I think it would have flown.

I have had first flushes have so much vigour they will almost overgrow all the casing too, but subsequent flushes seem to 'get the memo' and form primordia in all the nooks and crannies- which is the typical behaviour I see from tub to tub. Maybe worth noting, I've seen them overgrow the casing when my grow area is cold. Here is one from last december:

a week later:

2 weeks later:

But I've never had semp pin or knot before full colonisation, I do/ can generally let the whole surface (I use 11l tubs for mine) go white- excusing a patch or 2 that might need to catch up- then I pack some field capacity verm on, usually compressed. Then I'll mist it heavily once, twice or thrice a day while I gawp at them for a while.
:heartpump:

My peak conditions for a semp substrate surface look like:

I can send you a wedge if you want. I haven’t grown them out yet (I just cased my tubs this morning) so no guarantee it has good genetics, but no reason to believe otherwise

Just send me a message with a privnote, and I’ll send one your way.

I also case as soon as they're fully colonised but I'm thinking maybe the fact that I pseudo case at spawn is why I don't get the same density but should this really effect them this way? God damn it now I have to experiment and I don't have any clean HVC agar or grains:mad2::lol:

I don't get any pins before the substrate is fully colonised but it's always just a day or a few after casing it that I get the first pins so they come fast and they're many but something that's really common are uneven flushes where you have to harvest them slowly over a week or two:lol:

But seriously God damn it I'm gonna cook some fucking agar and inoculate some plates so I can start figuring this out:awesome: I'm doing great with these but I need to do even better.

@R4cMan/everyone:

these lovely fellas already offered you HVC spores so that's taken care of but if you want Semperviva Tres Soles as well just hit me up and I'll make a print for you as soon as they're dropping spores again mate.

Anyone else who wants Tres Soles can also hit me up but it'll take some time before the prints are ready:muppet:

:oogieboogie:

@Skansk, I'll gladly grab a Tres Soles :print: when they're ready thanks man.

This exactly with mine. Couldn’t even get a casing on a couple of my tubs before knots and pins showed because it started up way in advance of my expectations.

I think forgoing a top layer like you or laymixing is what I’ll try next run. That and liners, which I never do with shoeboxes, but they just want to pin on every dang surface.

For me it was 26°C(79°F) at that temperature they just hang out in the tub until temperatures dropped.

Yeah I’m really excited, and I feel that they are already my favourite species, even though I’ve never tried them. I notice that I’m often refreshing this page just to try to speed up the grow, but to no avail.
