This tub in particular is at 2.5:1 so almost 3:1 and with Tryp's recommendations on how to use my lids right lol, the moisture retention is on point now. I originally had way to much FAE at the start which has been corrected.

I have one tub that has started with the lid on normally that ive been watching so we'll see if its super dialed in now ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Glad you said it because I was under the impression that the water beads were the reason the knots and pins formed. But if its to just increase the likelihood that they form on to the and not the sides that radically changes my perspective.

Yea pins form due to full colonization. The beads are just indicative of the perfect microclimate to pin.

So not the cause, but an encouragement or tool to guide where they form

You don't need two holes. Regarding micro pore, I like being on the safe side, why expose yourself to unnecessary risk ... โ”โ (โˆต)โ โ”Œ

If those pictures were 2 weeks in then I'd say that's not a particularly good sign. With 5cc of LC you should be fully colonized but you haven't even performed the first shake - which btw I would do at this point.

What's the room temp where these jars are stored? And did you alone make this LC or is it from a vendor?

I do min 3 layers of mp. Preferably with a little tyvek underneath.

no, mine just had two from prior use. the important part is the sfd and micropore. putting more layers of tape on can add security.

has anyone her used those capsule makers with ground dried fruits?

I am not a fan of the idea of grinding into a powder, thinking of oxidation due to more surface exposure to air. But I think that grinding and sending into the capsules then closing them should not mean a huge loss in potency. Thinking of practicality in long term storage and (alleged) consumption.

Sounds like a good idea?

A couple of quick questions on Wavy Caps.

I know these are wood loving.

1. Do I need to start Cyans in verm and brown rice flower or could I inoculate hardwood substrate directly? I read a lot of the wood loving thread, but wasn't clear on the right starting point.

2. Once the mycelium is ready, could I directly plant the block outside and see it take off? Maybe throw some hardwood chips over it. I'm in the NW.

3. I have heard of hw paralysis. I don't see much about this on the threads. Is there a way to grow so that this is less likely?

You can do cakes or make grain spawn. From there, you can do bags of sterilized wood chips inside. When colonized ( and not freezing) add to more chips outdoors. You can also just mix grain spawn with chips directly outside. Iโ€™m in the WLP is fake camp. Never had it, no one I know has either.

So I think I am hearing you say that even for wood loving like Cyans you start them with grain spawn. Correct?

And sorry, one more noob question - is grain spawn the same thing as the PF Tek start?

I really am reading the forums, but just super noob!
