Wow I had the same question when I first started working with agar, and decided to just accept that if I've done clean up and a few transfers and still getting it that it might not be contam.

Great question and answers here

Hey everyone, my ochra spawn is about 80% colonized. Pretty excited about it. I'm wondering what spawn ratio you'd advise if I made this into a tub?

1:3 spawn to coir will work nicely

Here is my rule of thumb for spawn/coir ratios :

1:1 if you suspect your grains might be bacterial.
1:2 is a good safe option for most scenarios
1:3 if you have a very trusted culture that you know can handle it

For the tubs, I recommend this method. A blowtorch and a screwdriver are all I do to melt the holes.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26140339/page/1

Anyhow, once the grains are fully colonized, give it an extra day or two just to be safe.

I'd say they are ready in a week or two. I'd shake once more when they are 60% colonized.

Crucial advice is don't rush it, you can loose weeks of work by simply rushing it. All it takes is one uncolonized grain.

Great Thanks

My Grain Jars today looks like this. Looks Clean and Helathy too me what you guy's think?

Looking good. But is that only a single layer of micro pore tape on the FAE hole? That's pretty dicey. Order some proper filters mate.

fiet, i use 8 oz jarts with two holes covered by an sfd sticker and micropore tape, works like a charm. inject through the tape and re-tape.

A new question im coming across on my adventure.

So if the surface conditions arent proper, as in no sparkles
:magicfingers:

We mist it in order to trigger pins.

Well, once we have a solid set of pins/ small fruits, do we keep misting the fruits too or do we just let it run after that?

Ive been misting this tub even though the first flush pin set is very well even surface coverage.

There is plenty of condensation and humidity inside the tub. But the surface isnt always sparkly. Do we keep misting the surface even after all the pins form and fruits are healthy? Or do we LITFA? I've been dabbing up small pools in the corners. Lots of pins/fruits, surface starts to look matte/dry in some places, tub is full of condensation and humidity and some pooling in places.

Could try using a heavier coir to spawn ratio to avoid having to introduce more moisture

Like Milkyway said after the pins are in no need to keep surface conditions. And just to have said it even though you probably already know, the surface conditions don't trigger pinning, but it makes the surface a desirable place to pin, instead of the sides or bottom :crankey:
