I'm curious (and this goes out to anyone), what techniques help you get past the "shock" or "paralysis" of fear. For me, two things help:

1) Trust in my resiliency. I don't know how this situation will play out, but, if things go bad, I've bounced back before and i can bounce back again.

2) When i reach the other side of this, I will still be myself. If I can act in ways that are true to myself (my ideal self, ideally), then my regrets will be low and I'll sleep better at night.

Would love a third tool in my toolbox.

Presence helps, but i try to remind myself that most rough feelings are dragons that can be slain by facing them headon. The only way out is through.
Dont talk about it, be about it.

Hot damn!  Wife and I went walkin' on a new trail I randomly found while scrolling on Google Maps and duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude.  That place was fuckin' lousy with fungussy.  Like, I've only seen a place so laden with funguses, like, once before.  Just harvested some lion's mane (bout the size of a baseball), cauliflower fungus, and some russulas I'm spore printing to get a proper ID.  But, I saw sooooooo many more than those.  Couple species of amanita, including jacksonii, the sadly gnawed-upon remnants of several large crab brittlegills, some teeny tiny red-capped ones w/ orange-yellow stalks, turkey tails, boletes I couldn't quite ID, some that were the size of a fucking dinner plate (and NOT vomiters, least as far as I could tell), and just...so many beyond that.

And there's even more to the trail we never got to!  Definitely gonna be goin' back at some point after its rained again.  Can't wait to see what's further up the trail!

Figured, for the two I got a positive ID on already, I can save 'em in the fridge til I can get some of those lil' plastic sauce cups during my next grocery run and try my hand at makin' some o' them impromptu petri dishes w/ 'em.  Gonna try my hand at cloning those bad boys!

I confess I worked too much this week and didn't keep up with this or any other threads:sad: Sorry I am still behind, but I did manage to make some double extraction reishi tincture.

Good to see you, milkboy!

In my early 30s I just started doing things even if I was afraid of them. Even if I had a horrible fear of failure or disappointment, I tried them anyway. And I found, through mush cult first actually, that I was succeeding most of the time. Even when the success wasn’t instant, I was succeeding over the course of learning. I applied that to everything. Got a new job and went from janitor to manager literally solely because I agreed to learn things and take on roles I wasn’t always sure I would like or be suited for.

I know it sounds like kid shit because the stakes are so low for most of it, but I was nervous and anxious and scared for all the work related stuff. It has basically all worked out, though. Most of us will find we are way more capable than we believe if we put ourselves in a position where success and failure are both options.

Preach baby preach. Success and failure are two sides of the same coin. Both can be positive because we have opportunities to learn from our failures.

Once took a fine wine sales job as an shy introvert knowing absolutely nothing about wine (didn't think I even liked wine) going into it. After a few months I learned the field was incredibly interesting (new found interest +) and I had gained the respect of my coworkers, bosses, and buyers alike. The job wasn't something I wanted to do forever but the lessons it taught me I carry to this day. I left that job as a more confident/ extroverted version of myself having learned as much about wine as I did myself.

Fear is the mind killer

The universe doesnt count attempting as failure. Maybe you'd know that if you attempted something other than riling people up.

You either succeed or you learn.

Smelly's got his big shoes on. A rare sight for a hobbit.

I'm learning that the big questions in life have simple, fundamental answers; the hard part is putting them into action. I think your approach is a great example of this: just try new things, be surprised by the outcome.

I find this is easier to do when i seek validation from myself rather than from others.

I'd say any fear that stands between me and a need of mine. A true need, not a want. Those are the crucial fears to confront.
