Lots of people scrape off old casings after a flush n apply new ones n I've left alone personally lwk if ur casing looks like Swiss cheese it might cause uneven flushes n whatnot so itl mess up canopys if not reapplying a new casing

(I've not tryed scraping old casing after a flush n applying a new one just read about it here

Vermiculite does fine as casing for any cake. There is no need to scratch off casings.

I donโ€™t know about gyms, but a lot species donโ€™t do well on softwood, because it has antifungal properties.

So after the first flush harvest my cake ended up looking pretty rough.  I hydrated by pouring water mostly from the sides until the cake floated. Then poured some water all across the surface too. Let it sit there for over an hour. Cake shrunk a lot after the flush so its now just 2 inches high.

I also poured a bit or a pseudo casing layer to try and make surface more level and to patch the craters.

Then with a smaller lid, placed it in there to hold the cake while I tipped it to drain the water. Lots of water came out, feel like it didnt drink all that much, maybe I should have left it a lot longer than an hour and a half. Sprayed the surface with water, and the walls and lid and to the tent it went.

Should I have left it floating for a lot longer? I read somewhere to do one hour per inch of cake height but it could have been outdated info or just bad advice.

Thanks guys

I leave mine over night, if it drank all, rinse and repeat, assuming this is cubes and coir cake.

I try to just give em what they'll use. You're right that its not much. I kinda picture it like a straw. Even if it has fluid inside, itll be sucking air if theres no water pressure on the outside

"Whathesaid"

Nothing eats cedar. Look for furniture makers or other local woodworkers.

Yeah, like I said I don't recommend it at all, nothing bad happened to my cake though, but it was that one time and like, I was done with the tub after the first flush but I just didn't want to throw it out so I watered it like a plant and walked away
