Closest I have come was 6 months staying in a RV/Tent. My son had the RV bed and my wife and I the tent. We made a kitchen outside since the RV's was broken. Still had power and water though. We were setup right next to a forest of ancient maples, Oaks, and Cedar trees.

The person whose property we were staying at let us move into their basement after he saw a cougar just outside our tent.

All because my landlord decided to gamble my rent money away until she lost the house to the bank.

Some of the happiest moments in my life were when I traveled with just a backpack, or hid in some nature reserve with nothing but a pack of matches, a sleeping bag, knife and a pan. Love it.

Life is so full and direct when you spend all day searching for food and digging for water.

When we go to festivals or any odd destination really, and the kids are at their mom's, we have a bed in the van, a canister of gas to cook on and a roll of toilet paper, and it's a real fucking treat if we can take a cold shower somewhere. Or jump in a waterfall or whatever. Love it

Absolutely. Seeing Puff's post had me thinking about how I'd experience that with the kids.

This is true in theory and I aspire to one day be a person that can actually embody this in the hardest of times. I don't think it's what you're trying to do, but that can feel kinda like asking a depressed person if they've tried smiling more. Like yes, I also want to be in awe of the beauty of life from the throes of suffering. But at present, as an imperfect being... hurty things gon hurt a mf, and sometimes the most healing thing is just to let that have space to be true.

My thoughts exactly. Once you know what a crapload of work it is to have potable water, that fucking tap starts looking a lot better.

And yeah, portions of my off grid experience were intentional, others were born out of necessity. All the rich folk came up into the hills and bought everything during the height of covid when they realized they could work their pretend email jobs from anywhere with an internet connection. Made affordable living all but a vestigial remnant. I'm still bitter about it. Still incredibly grateful for the experience of living that way though.

Hey, welcome to the confessional.

We don't tend to do the dumbass nickname thing over here. Or the whole fronting-on-the-internet thing. We tend to just talk to each other like normal people IRL.

Got anything to confess, cultivation-related or otherwise?

I got one for you, in all sincerity:

I confess that I have a fraught relationship with transgressive humor and the whole online edgelord thing. I've participated in it, and both enjoyed and regretted doing so. I've had extended relationships and conversations with people who I later realized weren't kidding as much as I would have liked. Aside from the actual racist bootlickers who hang out in OTD, what really keeps me from participating over there more is the sense that I'm not "in on the joke," so to speak, and will end up offending people because my sense of transgressive humor cuts deeper than theirs does. And I'll never really know it, because they'll just respond with more bluster. And the thing is, I like to talk shit, but I don't like to step on toes unless someone really deserves it.

It's no surprise that weak, insecure, immature people feel they can raise themselves by lowering others. Like middle school.
