I know this isn't the confessional, but I had to scrap 25-30lbs years ago of Milo (my fav grain) from a feedstore that I don't mess with anymore.  I'm a composter slash dirty maker fir life, so Outside it goes, to the ground it grows.  I mean, you could clean them thoroughly, and get some of them to jump off, but stalling jars will happen, especially subpar cereal grains.

So.... how do I find good grains? can wheat and rye do this, too? I can get wheat from my local grocer but the same local guy who I got my oats from for cheap also does wheat and stuff. Am I not to trust it?

^ no, you can absolutely trust most horse oats or bulk wheat. They need to have their hulls intact.

If it's super dusty, try using a strainer over a bucket or something to remove excess.

the wheat needs to have the hull intact? Even the image of the wheat feed from my local farm store's website doesn't show hulls on the wheat. I'm so confused 😞

Keeping on the grain theme - there is feed store near me that sells 'white millet' as birdseed, does this imply that it's hulled or is this just the name of the seed strain?

50Lbs for $18 - seems like a good deal.

I feel grain prep is overlooked sometimes, a lot of my cult time is spent prepping grains and substrate :stirthepot:

Your best bet is just to keep trying different grains from different sources until you find one you like. It's not a rye vs oats vs Millet vs wheat thing. It's a this one provider has something that works for me vs when I get it from elsewhere I have problems that I cant nail down.

Looking at putting my first spore print on glass and framing it.

However I can only find acrylic on amazon.

Anyone done this before and have any yes or no's to using acrylic instead of glass?

The bottom of your jar looks like it’s fractured. Be careful, broken mason jars can cut you real good.

I was looking into this some time ago and haven't actually done it, but what I found was that finding a fram you like with glass should be easy, then print on white paper and use fixative spray to preserve the print.

I went back to WBS, easy to clean and no bugs (small seeds, mainly milo, millet and wheat), but Azure has nice prices of feed and drop offs, but most of the time it isn't a problem at most feed outlets and definitely store your grains in some paint buckets or something similar.

Hey thats a good idea!

I got some of these

I wanted to be able to hold it up to light and see through it all the way. But a picture frame is much more sentimental and I would be able to hang it.... AAHHH I should try both I guess lol.

There seems to be a fixative spray for glass, so it might work, acrylic will get scratches real fast though, I like the idea of doing both and find out

Edit: Because then I don't have to :hehehe:

LMFAO mthfkr fine! Ill figure something out and document it just for you.

:retrocool:

My only worry with fixative spray is the spray part, if the can is too powerfull would it not blow the spores all over? Or do they cling pretty well to smooth surfaces?

Since I've never used it I'm just guessing here, but it is to preserve pencil drawings and the info I read here on the org was for preserving prints.

And dude, what do you mean too powerful? Do you mist your tubs like 1cm from the surface, just back up that fine trunk of yours or spray above it or some shit, figure it out and hit me back

I need to get lighter with my swab technique.

When swabbing albinos, what causes bruising to show up on the q-tip, after the fact? Is it gill fragments/burst psilocybin that is now oxidizing?

If my swab ends up like that, and I use it on a plate, that would mean I would be effectively cloning it rather than using the transparent spores, right?

Even if spores were present, still living mycelium would colonize way quicker and outcompete spores. I feel like that fucked me over many times with Yeti and such.

So, if my swab has bruising, I would have to wait weeks to use it without cloning the original fruit, so that any mycelial cells die. The spores would survive, and then germinate on agar.

Wonder if laying some sort of super thin vellum paper over top of the print, and then hitting it with fixative would work? Would probably mute the print a bit, but would probably be better for longevity. I'm sure people have probably figured this out with non-active mushroom prints before and probably have write-ups you could find with an internet search. Or just fuckin send it!
