Thats most likely the problem and im annoyed because I had resolved to do something about that a bit ago but have forgotten until now.

Would plastic wrap work for plates or should I just order parafilm?

Yeah, that's definitely the problem. Like hippe said you can use cling wrap, grafting tape or parafilm

I use disposables so cleaning is not an option, besides I often go back to a plate several times and the residue sounds like a PITA
