Can Zaps be grown with regular PF Tek cakes? Got a print from DV8 (thanks again) and I'm thinking of trying it for Cake Wars III.  Reading through here it looks like top fruiting only, not enough moisture long term for a dunk and roll cake, right?

5 weeks and 2 days since I cased Cinco Palos and I finally got a pin!!! I'm beyond stoked. Just hope I get a decent pin set.

You can get a few fruits from a birthed cake but it's not optimal. Top fruiting works great. Not sure if it counts for Cake Wars but it can produce more than expected.
You can also break the cake up into coir and let it rip from there.


The 4 cup ziplock style containers are the perfect size for a half pint. Roughly a 1:3 ratio layered. CV+ or Azo treated coir  can add a little extra kick but it's not totally needed.

Dang, the Zap and Semp prints both jumping off within 5 days or so, fresh prints make me happy dealing with old tamp/mexicana A prints.  I just resurrected a homestead PE print from 21, but I can't get Mexi A or Tamp prints that are newer (22'/23) to grow, maybe that's how it be with some of these species.  Anyway, I am getting a few of my older cubes going to play in CAKE WARS!  I may have to do a Zap and or Semp cake simply... just to do it.  All the best cultivators.

This is my first attempt using ZAPS. I had trouble with germination on agar, so I made pucks. It worked for two of them, although Trich appeared on one. I then took a transfer from the point furthest away on that one and moved it to agar.

Now for my question: what does the remaining puck look like? And what do you think of the agar plates?

5 days seems slow if it was mold, but hard to be certain, let them grow out some more, can't help with the pucks as I never used one yet.
