Ever use psychedelics to explore fear?
    #29651805 -

Curious to hear stories if anyone's done this. What was it like, what did you learn?

Unintentionally, but yeah, having enough bad trips will definitely force you to confront your fears ...  I am a huge proponent for this, since fear is largely the motivation for 'normal' people.

I think it’s inevitable to come face to face with your fears while on mushrooms. Mushrooms are boundary dissolvers. And, in my experience, anything I haven’t been facing comes roaring out when the boundary is dissolved.

I do try to deal with obvious issues before tripping. And, If I’m in a fearful place, I don’t go in. I’ve learned that these fears will be waiting for me right as the trip starts. So, I get prepared. I shower, I mentally cleanse, I make an easy day. I then approach the mushrooms with respect.

Is that enough to keep you away? Up for a mushroom challenge? If you do enter the arena, are you going to fight, make peace, run?

Lots to explore here. If you walk the path, it should be some of your most satisfying self-work.

Every fear is a blob of unconsciousness in your mind. If you face it and heal it, that energy is now consciously yours. I think of these places as new land in my headspace — like a new oasis gets created each time. My consciousness territory grows.

Since you asked for a story. This comes from a few 5 dried gram journeys…

I was in a swampy jungle rich with life. Organic vines or snakes were curling in and out all around me. It was night, dark, green and creepy. And, danger was coming.

I saw a massive grinder, planetary-devouring level, slowly eating everything and heading towards me. It ate plants and animals. All it was interested in was protein. I remember lots of fish going in the jaws.

I was terrified. I thought of myself as more valuable than fish. I said I had an iron center. Metal meant nothing to the grinder. I was only food.

I jerked as the machine got closer and hit my body on some furniture and shook myself out of the vision. Took a bit to calm down from that one.

So, I was there, I was terrified and I fled. I, my ego, was afraid of dying. About all I could reflect about the trip was ‘whew’.

A few trips later, I was in a similar situation and this time went ‘Oh Shit’ as a crusher landed directly on me. I had no way out, it was my time to die. Those that were near me fled and this one machine was just for me. Game over. Nothing bad happened and I started up in another scenario. I was baffled on that one. I died but didn’t.

To round this out, a few more trips later, I was taught how to die and be reborn by a scorpion spirit. I’ve used this technique a few times now. It may be a tool and it took about 30 5g trips to get there.

It does seem like every trip is another step. Kind of like playing Dark Souls III or Bloodborne. You get a bit farther, you die, repeat. The back cover of Bloodborne starts ‘Face your fears…’

I truly view psychedelics as a bitter pill we swallow to better ourselves, but in my experience I forget what was so difficult about the experiences before I take the plunge again. Then the trip is an experience where I begin to remember how much I suffer in that state of hyper awareness and distortion of the way my mind works, and that teaches me how valuable life is and how we can always return back home even when we feel super lost and confused and scared. There are moments of coolness and feeling good, but when I'm tripping balls I am more freaked out and scared than I am feeling blissful. The bliss comes when it's all over and I start to laugh to myself about what the fuck just happened, the weird delusions I was wrapped up in, it's like seeing earth from space almost things just seem trivial and life feels like freedom from that mindset rather than just something I take for granted.

I am lucky to have never really gotten lost, I've always landed on my feet. But it is a super exciting experience because it's a little dangerous, you get close to the edge sometimes and a lot can go wrong. But it rarely does and it leaves you a wiser and less self-serious person and life's challenges don't seem that bad anymore.

Involuntarily, all the time

Usually when I take over an eighth of decent mushrooms  or 3+ hits of LSD I have a feeling that I am going to face some fears whether l like it or not.  And, yep, that’s how it generally goes

Fear is the mind killer - if we want to grow we have to face it at some point (easier said than done).  This is what I tell myself when drenched in The Fear

There is evidence that these experiences are like workouts to handle anxiety better. You have to learn to stay calm and breathing, even when it gets scary.

I have noticed this effect, although like working out, it should be a regular practice. You may have setbacks too. Drop some weight and keep going.

I have not done so intentionally, but have had many experiences where I faced fear.

Last trip I saw a seat that looked to me, as if it  was dark and horrible and I knew it would not be pleasant to sit there. But I did anyway. And I realised that was quite strange to have intentionally gone towards something that appears terrifying.

A man approached me and asked me if I was okay but also if I could help him fix his car which battery had died (I declined due to my state). Being asked by a stranger if I was okay and I could see the genuine care from him, well that was more than what I got from a very close friend last year that kicked off my PTSD. So yeah, something about facing fear seems to always lead to something good (like seeing the good in humanity).

Tbh, the first few trips I had were so fucking awful. I'm surprised I didn't let the fear take me away from it. I'm glad I stuck with it. Now I can experience it and yeah sometimes the fear comes back, but it's more manageable. Kinda like when you learn to live with PTSD. It's never gone, but it can be dealt with better.

I reckon if I ever do a so called heroic dose, I would have to go into it with the intention of facing my fears. I couldn't go into it without expecting anything but a scary difficult time.
