Can anyone tell me what kind of mold this is and why I keep getting them on my plates?

I’m using a still air box and my technique albeit not perfect is decent. Not every plate has this but I have seen it pop up a lot recently. I heat up my blade in the SAB but don’t think that has anything to do with it.

Can't say what kind of mold it is, but your wrapping seems lacking and the mold keeps turning up on the edge of your plates :strokebeard:

Heating up in the SAB makes your still air turbid,
also dangerous when handling ISO.
For sure more turbulent than moving slowly in and out your SAB.
Kloakk already mentioned wrapping, very important.

Cleaning up a clone of Wild Australian Eungella that fruited Leucistic on some straw. I lost the prints like a fool. This is T3 from an old agar plate that was still alive cause I pour a bit thick.

The aerial mycelium is showing up in all of the Eungella plates. Like it's hyperextending its fingers backwards. This one also has a more uniform other side, although a bit wispy.





What would you say, sign of contam? Sectoring?

I'll still transfer both sides to new plates and try to test out a shoebox of each.

I tossed a blank wedge on a plate that has been dessicated for at least a year. I didn't want to make a batch of agar just for a single hot pour, so I thought I'd give this a try.

I thought the wedge would dry out before it revived the culture, but I guessed wrong:



The culture is Ps. Cyan and I'll transfer it onto a blank plate this weekend. I'll probably practice grabbing mycelium only for one plate, and then just pluck the whole wedge and drop it on it's own plate.
