Have you shaken it, if you've got more than  one give it a try see if it recovers..

If not top fruit the rest...

Not saying much but have spawned worse looking grains and had some fruits, also some other not so pleasant things....

Looks can be deceiving, especially with oats.

I've had plenty of batches of oats that get sweaty and have uncolonized grains forever... Glad I just went for it anyway because it was fine.

A good test is to just pull out a few grains, especially the fucky looking ones and put them on agar. Whatever is there or not there will be revealed.

These have all gotten their one shake and are recovering right now, I imagine most of those dead zones will fill in like they have before. Weird thing is I've had a few APE batches now that look like this, just some condensation and the odd slimy grain here and there as signs of bacteria, the kind of jars where I'd usually get a second, maybe third flush before trich sets in, but they trich out before the first flush.

I'll try out the agar test, I've been planning to test for hidden contams with this culture anyways.

Okay, I have a question.

If you have questionable spawn why top fruit? Wouldn't it be better to dump the spawn into a ziplock with a bit of coir, mix it up and tuck it away somewhere with a hope and a prayer?

Then you could have your jar back to make some more grain

Is it less likely to fruit if you make the bag up instead of fruiting in the jar?

When you break it up you weaken the mycelium, whatever else that is in the jar gets spread around making it less likely to get anything out of it.

Some wonderful SGT that I spawned today to some coir that smelled funny. It will probably not make it. I didn't catch a whiff until I was putting on the pseudocasing. Went through and sniffed the rest of my made-in-advance coir jars and found 1 sweet smelling one and two kinds.... Ozone or maybe chlorine ish smelling ones. Idk I ditched the sweet one and set the other two aside. I guess making coir in advance to front load work is a bad idea. Lessons learned.

Ive still got a cooler with hydrated (boiling water tek) coir that will has been sitting since summer i plan on using as is...
But granted it isn't an airtight seal, so maybe your's gone anaerobic.

Re. Top fruit not everyone uses widemouth jars for grain spawn since they don't plan on birthing it, & there isn't anynway to remove it without breaking it up.  But what kkloakk said is also the reason why we shake at 100% and wait for signs of quick recovery.

Brown rice and corn jars, the corn has some beautiful rhizo growth albeit has yeast growing as well sadly. The brown rice however is flawless and I plan on spawning to coir tonight

Say hello to jar jar. Jar jar is 5 days old since transferring to woodchips jar jar is azuresence think I should make jar jar jars? Then spawn to tubs and dog outdoor 6 to 8 inch holes layer cardboard wet on bottom then dump jars n mix uncolonized chips spread a little n dump some jiffys verm n peat moss starter pot filler  I norm pasteurize the jiffy with boiling water though curious ifpickling lime would work for a better success rate evin though mines decent can always find room to improve in a month il b busy af tryna make this a alaskan native

Grew out some plates from funky looking grains and those jars definitely were contaminated. Hard to get a clear picture of but it's a very thin, slimy layer with a bit of filamentous structure to it. Looks the same as the leading edge of all my other plates, maybe it's just what thin mycelium looks like and these are too unhealthy to grow thick, maybe it's a hidden contam growing under the myc. Either way I think my plates are the source of the problem, a vendor LC syringe has gotten some healthy looking jars.

Low spore/ sporeless x7x+ about to be sent to bulk. It’s been an uphill battle with this one after a round of mass contamination. But I salvaged the genetics and am going to drop some of these grains on plates before sending to bulk. If the genetics prove to yield nicely like its parents did, there will be a give away :smile::mushroom2:

You can't just drop a litter of puppies out of focus in the background on us like that. We need at least some (or all) puppies to be in focus to properly assess that APE spawn. :dancer:
