I take issue with this statement. Plenty can go wrong between agar and grain

is this healthy mycelium? I broke and shook it twice now once when the agar got big enough to spread and then about a week ago. Is it bad to break and shake again?

I was just going to wait till it covers up everything naturally but is it really bad to break and shake a bunch? It has to be again anyway for transfer to that container behind it. Im guessing 6-7 days till it will get the jar naturally. It smelled strongly of mushrooms last break and shake I think its decent spawn.

It looks healthy to me, although I've never used that sort of seed mix - there are some yellowy spots but I think that's just the grains.

Shaking multiple times shouldn't hurt healthy mycelium.  It'll bounce back in a day or so, and will help it colonize the remaining substrate more quickly.

It there's contamination, however, more shakes will tend to make those more obvious also.  The upside is that you don't waste more time/material on a compromised jar.

Did you smell this through the filter when you shook it, or open the lid to smell it?

For me instead of the watery eyes now I just get really bad congestion. My nose and throat tend to get all stuffy and congested.  It can be really distracting.

And then there's the trips where I feel like I have to pee every fucking 10 minutes..

Thanks the little yellow things are white millet they were not colinzed got mixed in with the colinzed grain last break and shake they starting to get fuzzy now just the outer part is not.

I really thought it damaged the mycelium the more you break and shake and the less is better. If not then I can probably speed up the growth again.

Also yes the smell came through the filter when it was shaking its the only time I smelled anything from the jars. It has only been opened one time in a still air box.

What PSI are you running? 4 quarts had maybe 200ml left after 1 hour 20 minutes going in between 15-16 PSI in a 24 quart pressure cooker for me.

:hewut:

I put 3 qt in my presto and after 15 minutes of venting and 2 hours and 30 minutes cycle around 17-18 PSI I might loose up to 1/2 qt, half of it probably during venting.

Same here.
Once it starts venting I lower the heat to low/med. I think people lose water by venting on high heat.

I'm not convinced you can lose that much water venting. I've been venting full send on my largest burner and I have plenty of water left after my runs. My bet is on running too hot or damaged seals. Probably both. Something is very wrong to be losing 3.5 litres of water during an 80 minute run.

I had to get rid of the pressure cooker because it did have damage. I was actually planning on buying a Nesco 9.5 quart pressure canner that is eltric but I have to wait because I bought a metal dehydrator so if I get a large flush I can dry them whole by removing a rack.

I just ran it way to hot the first time I was trying to hit 20PSI because it said 25PSI maxed out so I wanted to see. It ran dry and had mild warping and ever since had difficulty maintaining water and broke a seal.

Anyway with this eltric one I shouldn't heat it to much and it should be slightly better than a instapot. Even has a automatic shutdown if running dry.

I don’t jump between hot and cold. My body instead decides which sensitive it wants to be and sticks with that one.

I ALWAYS feel like I need to go to the bathroom.

Vermiculite and gypsum in added to coir for substrate? From what I've read so far, gypsum is obsolete and verm is good if coir is overhydrated. Is this accurate information, or am I misunderstanding? Are there other additives to substrate that help growth? Or does the grain provide the mycelium all of its necessary nutrients.

Edit for clarity: for monotubs specifically. Using 6qt dubtubs and 18qt modified tubs (FAE holes)

gypsum is a calcium sourze and useful for me, I am attempting a wood grow BRF style with Lions mane, RRs videos shows him adding wheat bran and gypsum to his woodchips and sawdust. Gypsum contains mushroom nutrients.

I use it in BRF substrates to make it airy and fluffy, not dense and clogged like most noobs.

Just coir is fine.  Nothing wrong with using verm to absorb liquid but I just squeeze extra out and use pure coir.  There is no use for gypsum in a mono sub.

Sorry, I misread. BUt in Sawdust grows RR mentions it. Ive used it in BRF substrates, and it never hurt me. BUt yes there is no use for it in monotubs.

Doesn't it help with giving signals to the mycelium to grow? I heard it can be around 15% faster but coir is great stuff. Coir vermiculite gypsum seems decent though 80% coir and 20% grade 3 vermiculite with a tiny amount of gypsum is what I was going to try.

I will also try coir by itself I was just going to use a 50/50 coir grain mix.

I can get some hydrated lime and try a zero heat grow I think 50/50 straw and spawn would do well in a tubbleware container.

Working with manure seems to risky at my level of skill.

Nope.  Literally no benefit.

I cannot stress enough that clean spawn, genetic selection, and proper spawning conditions are all that's important.  There is no magic additive that is going to make anyone's cube grow better.  Not H2O2, not poo, not gypsum, nada.

Genetics, cleanliness, conditions.

There is precedent to the use of h2o2 as an enzymatic trigger, thats all im saying, there might be beneficial uses, one could reseach all the enzymes involved in shroom growing, but its probably easier to test, and every step upon further efficiency is a good one, specially if cheap, once im more stablished i will test it, but just saying if anyone wants to try, its a possibility

Nope, it's not going to help, if you need a third opinion.

If you want to grow big flushes of potent mushrooms see the post above this one.  There is no secret shortcut.

Thank you! Are there any benefits to something like Azomite, oyster shell flour, kelp, etc? Or is it largely just the same as Gypsum of no benefit.

Not really for cubensis. They can't help but want to grow and grow simple. Piggy is giving good advice. I know it's hard not to over think it.. it's pretty normal for people in this hobby/way of life actually.
