yeah, IME after 12h the surface starts foaming = fermentation begins and we're feeding the sugars to bacteria and yeast, innit?

It's not your grain prep. Molds don't survive the PC cycle they don't even survive pasteurizing.
Make grain leave one not inoculated
Fake spawn a tub of coir with no spawn just hydrated coir
Chances are neither of these go wrong

Ive left uninoculated jars. They dry out after about 3 months with no sign of contam. Ive also left prepped coir in a bucket for awhile, if that counts. Didnt use it but seemed fine.

Supposedly grains wont sterilize properly if not fully hydrated.

Can you dunk fully colonized substrate in a monotub that is too dry before the first flush? So I can just set and forget about it? Or is misting the only option?

I mean, it's ugly and it will ruin the surface... but you can, but why is it that dry?
(technically it's what we do with BRF cakes)

Sounds like you have sterile grains then

There is probably no causation. Myc does fine at 61º honestly probably lower. Only thing that would have a direct causation are drastic temp swings. If you are comfortable, your mycelium is comfortable. Keep it at the temperature it has been colonizing at.

What's yalls favorite grain jar colonizing temp. I had an aggressive straing going good at 67-70 but the pan cyan and GT I had were moving super slow so I moved it to a room with a 72-76 temp

Sorry for the extra clarification. I was responding to this. I had left the page up.

I keep seeing this, and while I know better than to think I know better, my jars are absolutely colonizing slower since it's cooled off, and I keep my apartment at 71. Ive checked temps and the area the jars are kept is 69-71...the grain jars had sat a while before innoculating though. Suppose the grain dried out some and that is causing the slowdown? I doubt very much it's a contaminate- they look fine and speeds were fine until the last handful of weeks.

That would certainly eliminate the grain and coir as suspect.  Going SAB technique theory?

Say I leave my bucket Tek coir in the garage and it gets down to almost freezing. Can still use it just fine right? Wondering now about temp when it gets packed down and mixed with colonized grains

I'd bring it inside and let it warm up to room temp before spawning, but I don't see how getting cold would do anything to it

The slow down and the temp swing could be a complete coincidence and not a universal intercept point. There are a load of factors you are not considering that coincide with the temp swing no doubt about it.

Why did the director Name Sean Connery’s Character “the Spaniard” when he does nothing about his Scottish accent for the entire film?

Why didn’t he call him? “the Scotsman” instead?

Indeed, which is why I mentioned knowing better than to think I know better than established knowledge. They're still colonizing, but it doesn't seem to be as fast as when it was mid-high 70s in my apartment. Oh well...
