I don’t believe time is the risk factor but rather the sterile technique. With proper technique you could use as much as a whole plate or as little as a josex poke with no worries. Time doesn’t create contamination, introducing contamination while inoculating your jars causes contamination.

And yes, you can put the agar pieces into the sub when you spawn to bulk.

How do you figure a small piece will have a greater chance of contamination? If your shit is clean it shouldn't matter

I guess the theory he's thinking of may be similar to idea that you want to spawn bacterial spawn with high coir ratios, like 1:1 or 1:2 so that the mycelium is stronger and can colonize quicker and thus "beat" the bacteria to overtaking the tub. So in that sense, a bigger piece of agar would cause the jar to colonize faster in the event the grain has been compromised.

I want to be clear I'm not endorsing the view, only guessing at how he arrived at that thought.

Like trying to deal with a flat tire by riding downhill :P

I understand the thought process behind it, but let’s just make sure we have properly inflated tires and work from there

Are any of the sub $50 12 inch impulse sealers worth a shit at sealing bags, or am I gonna have to shit out 100 bucks or so?

Using 2mil bags or heavier you'll want something that can handle 6mil of plastic with a 5mm wide sealing face.  You might find one on amazon, but really dig through the specs and make sure it's not some anemic 200w x 2mm sealer.  You'll probably want at least 350w if not 500w of power behind it.

I've got this one. It's got a 5 mm seal bar and works fine even if I leave the gusset in place (i.e. sealing 4 layers at the edges) so I don't have to make two seals with the 14A bags.

I hold it down for at least 5 seconds after the element turns off to give everything a chance to solidify again before lifting it.

That said, you can get away with a zip tie over a gathered (and maybe folded-over) top. It's just not as pretty.

Can you store liquid culture jars without inoculating them for a couple days after PCing them? If so, where is the best place to store them?

They should last indefinitely in the fridge.

Soooo, I soaked my grains and totally planned on pcing today - but plans have changed that. So, I plan on just letting the grains dry out overnight (rye berries). I'm concerned they may become too dry... but it's my only option. Sure hope I didn't burn through a whole 5lb bag. Think this will still be PC eligible in about 12 hours?

But if you're do bucket Tek, you should still add boiling water to pasteurize the CVG mix due to the gypsum right?

Pasteurization with boiling water never works.
But you can do whatever you want with coir, unless it's a gardening brand.
Coir for reptiles can even be cold water hydrated.
I like it between 80-90Β°C due to consistancy.

I love Ryberry and I literally had to do this.
Just leave it sitting over a bathtub hanging out and then go and move it around a little bit the morning after you put it out to start drying and then when you get to come back, it will be dry.
Then you can load up your jars and run your PC with them.

How is this tub looking? I am pretty sure it's not looking too good since it has been 19 days since S2B and there is only 2 little pins I noticed. And it looks dry af.
Is this maybe contaminated? If not, is there any advice to get it to start pinning like misting for example? And is too much FAE the culprit? Because it is very dry with no water droplets on top whatsoever. I never had this problem since I started doing a set and forget tek, which I was doing with this tub.
