Hi. I have a few questions about 15 qt box.

1stly, I recently learned this isn't shoebox. but sweater box? I'm honestly not quite sure. But I'm wondering what tek to use for this size of box. Specifically how much spawn and how much grain do I need? I'm also guessing this is best unmodified? Thanks.

Dump water in a qt at a time and count till your happy with the depth

Probably annoying asking for agar opinions here. Is there a more appropriate thread for this?

My plate is beginning to grow these bumps and look altogether stranger by the day. Could this ever be considered normal?

Do what cronicr said with the water, that will give you the number of quarts in volume to get the depth you want, 3-4" or so. Then just spawn whatever ratio you like to hit that amount of quarts. If it's 6 qts of water to get 3" then you could do 2qts spawn 4qts sub, 1qt spawn 5qts sub, etc.

How old is that plate and what species? Aged mycelium of many species does weird stuff on agar. Cubensis (and many others) will readily pin after a couple months, so you are likely seeing primordia forming.

Psilocybe caeruleorhiza makes weird vertical rhizomorphs that turn blue. Shiitake and pioppino tend to turn brown across the plate. Lion's mane forms primordia that will find the rim of the plate, grow over it and break through the wrapper. Old plates are fun to observe. :smile:

You are not being annoying.
All earnest questions are valid.
That is an interesting colony. Tomentose growth (fuzzy) is not inherently bad but there is definitely something else going on here.
Perform transfer(s) and start again from spore.

First time prepping rye. I was doing the straight to 10 minute boil, 10 minute hot soak, cool rinse, dry.

I should have let it get to a boil before adding my grain, because with the amount of grain I had once it actually got to a boil and I took it off I had 30% burst grains.

Just wondering if people use burst grains just fine or if it is somehow a nono.

Supplemented coir experiments< Currently ongoing spring 2026.

~Agar~ 1000mL water = 1000g water. use ~1% agar...1% of 1000g is 10g.  For cubes, use between 1-2% nutes (10-20g). For pans use 0.5% nutes (5g).

Everything I have typed is purely fiction, and is purely for personal amusement.

that is fine. less is better but burst grains alone will not hurt mycelium.

So these shrooms I'm growing are super albino and I'm pretty sure the culture I ordered was B+, Burma and Golden Teacher. Like do they turn albino by a quirk of genetics on its own?

I mean no lie looking at your sig looks A LOT like what they look like currently, mine are just speckled with a bit more off white flecks on the caps. And as I've said this was my first ever in life grow so I did buy a vendor culture. Not gonna lie all three cultures they sold me in a 3 pack I used from them has worked out. That's pretty impressive.

And I didn't even use the pf Tek method!
