I think it would be nice to have it rigged to a outlet attached to a light switch. So you could turn on the room have the fan start running leave that room for maybe 10 minutes. Come back & that room would be clean. Of course this would all depend on the rooms dimensions and the BTU of the fan though.

It is actually very nice I have this exact setup for my home made hepa filter that filters the air quality before entering the fruiting room.  It's connected to a high powered blower so it moves alot of air through the filter and creates a nice turbulent air flow in the small room which then gets recirculated and refiltered.  Probably overkill but I like it.

You'll have to replace the pre filter and hepa regularly if you leave it on 24/7.

Putting spores in a syringe keeps them hydrated if you need/want to store them long term.

I started this hobby less than two months ago and I started by failing a lot trying to work with agar. :rolleyes:

I only had a spore syringe and tried to get mycelium going on agar and it did not go well. I know I need to learn it, it seems fun, but I'm not confident.

It seems tricky to get rid of condensation without contaminating the plates without a laminar flow hood.


Bro, if I can do it, you can do it, lol. I don't think you have to even worry about condensation, and a SAB is plenty good enough for starters, I believe.  :thumbup:

My goal is to always print every grow, and now I've started cloning on agar anything that's healthy/clone-worthy.

So yeah, start some plates and transfer them when you get back...

Cordisporae (neoxalapensis, fagicola, yungensis, etc) species are slow and can die in LC if not stirred gently, or if shaken too hard.

They also don't take well to anything with too many nutrients it seems, like grain. So LC to grain with them frequently fails. I suspect it's due to too low of available moisture on the surface of the grain, so they give up before they make it inside.

If you go agar to grain, they visibly suck the moisture from the puck of agar and use it to spread.

Here are neoxalapensis and fagicola sucking out the moisture and using it to spread on grain that is probably too dry. (Oats and millet). You can also see where it contracts the grains together and the puck has sunken inward.




So maybe I'm not answering your question, certainly not a quick answer :rofl:, because they all do ok in low nute LC but if you shoot LC into grain with these they often just act as if you didn't inoculate at all.

I think Angulospora is the reigning champion of sensitivity here. Cordispora section are a close runner up.

It's irrelevant if the caps are open or closed. What you want is a sample of inner sterile tissue that was never in contact with the atmosphere.

Bro, if I can do it, you can do it, lol. I don't think you have to even worry about condensation, and a SAB is plenty good enough for starters, I believe.  :thumbup:


I bought more dishes so I will try again soon. Can you let them cool down in a SAB without the lids or will that contaminate them?

I only got one syringe and used it all when I tried different things to get going. I failed with everything except PF tek so I'm doing more of that for now, that's why I want to put it in a syringe. :grin:
