Yeah, I was referring to the spore covered mushrooms.

I am aware of bruising.

Thank you ^^

Showing my lack of knowledge here, but I hear this term multispore syringe that supposedly contains spores of different genetics. Why would that be the case? Wouldn't such a syringe just be made from a spore print from a single mushroom?

Nope, it is made from a spore print or whatever, it is "multi-spore" because it's different spores which will have different phenotypes and potencies colonization speed, etc

the spores are not mixed with other "strains" spores, if that's what you were thinking.... a spore print contains multiple sets of possible genetics and phenotypes, and when you use the spore syringe you are getting multiple spores per drop of solution... hence the term multispore

Every single spore from a single mushroom contains a different set of genetics.  When they bind they produce offspring that share those different genetics.  Maybe it's a fruiting culture, maybe not.  Maybe tall, maybe short, maybe fat, maybe skinny.

That's what multispore means.

Quick Question: What do I do in the in between time where I don't want to start a new grow?

I have like 3 diff grows going right now and don't really have the time to start anymore that I'll be able to harvest before I leave, so what do y'all recommend? I was thinking about trying to get some clones on agar once my grows start fruiting, but is there anything else i should be prioritizing?

Prioritize everyday life haha.
Or maybe get into Trichocereus cactus.
I agree with HBO though, Cannabis is always good too..

You can always be making transfers or starting new plates.  Cultures can hold for a while in the fridge if you have other priorities, then just pull em back out and go to work.

One thing I always neglect is printing and storing cultures. Itโ€™s not overly complicated or anything, but I always put it off and then all of a sudden Iโ€™m back at square one starting from spores. Tucking wedges away for a rainy day allows you to jump right back in without waiting for germination and preserve the great genetics youโ€™ll come across.

Working with agar will let you move on to LC if you want. LC is an awesome tool to speed colonization times up considerably and can be stored for a long time. If you have some on hand, you can ramp up super fast and get a grow started in very little time. But make sure youโ€™re a pro at proper technique before going down the LC road. For as powerful of a tool that it is, it can also fuck up a ton of grain if itโ€™s not perfect.

The first print I made failed I think. It was very light and had water drops on the print but I let it dry and tried to get it into a syringe but that was easier said than done. It seems like the spores got stuck to the plastic on the inside of the syringe.
I made some jars just to try and see if it works anyway.

This is my second print, looks much better. Now I need to learn how to properly get it into a syringe.

Thanks, this was the source of my confusion here. The spores of a mushroom are not going to produce a clone of that mushroom.

Why put it in a syringe?

Is the only reason you're supposed to use PP5 plastic for agar so that it's heat rated to not melt in the pressure cooker? If I tried pressure cooking some no label chinese plastic containers and they don't melt, is there any other reason not to use them?

Yes, so they donโ€™t melt.

And, No. I would say go ahead and use them.

Alternately, you could just scrape a little on agar

I started this hobby less than two months ago and I started by failing a lot trying to work with agar.

I only had a spore syringe and tried to get mycelium going on agar and it did not go well. I know I need to learn it, it seems fun, but I'm not confident.

It seems tricky to get rid of condensation without contaminating the plates without a laminar flow hood.

A few days ago I had this jar. I did nothing to it, no dunk, no roll, just put it in a fruiting chamber to see what happens.

It seems fine but why do both caps have that dimple?
