OOOOooo that smell....

I tried WBS with total failure. I think it was the brand i bough, (wagners) and the fact i forgot to rinse it even once. After the jars didnt germinate, i threw them out because io couldnt take the weird bird seed smell anymore. After dumping i realized i had cooked some of the seed during sterilization, this could have contributed to the smell, and the failure.


Now, im on to millet. This stuff doesnt smell the best either. But its a lot better, untill i incubated it. 3 days after injection, the whole tub stinks. Not really sure what it smells like. I can smell the millet, but its amplified. Im thinking maybe because the jars are enclosed in a sealed chamber with water in the bottom, creating a very moist enviroment. My first try with BRF, i didnt get any noticeable smell, but i think that may be because i didnt have them in an incubator.


Now, i also find three of my cakes in my fruiting chamber have mold. I threw them out, even though the mold didnt have an odor.

Are these smells normal? I am really disliking the humidity created in the incubaor using a tub-in tub tek. Im thinking of getting a reptile rock this weekend....

im not sure about the other stuff but i know a reptile rock will not work for ya. not like the tub-in-rub. u place a tank heater in the bottom add water and place a tub in that one.. works great and i have very little humidity no more than whats in the air already.
a heating rock can not be put in water not can the pads

I am using a reptile rock in a tub with a mylar blanket. Temp stays between 80F and 85F and Room is at 75F so it does work fine.

Mylar blanket.. so u dont start a fire ? thats a good idea....

Mylar to hold the heat in. The reptile rock will not start a fire.

yeah, i wasnt talking about putting the heatrock underwater, i want to eliminate the water alltogether. For now, i have opened a vent for air to exchange, hopefully that will keep the humidity down...

Im trying fractal sterilization. I used millet from the health isle, i hope thats OK. I figured it may be a little cleaner than barn stuff...
