Heat Blanket Incubator
    #6644594 - 03/07/07 08:47 AM (17 years, 2 months ago)

Hello,

I've read heat blankets weren't a good idea for incubators because it drained the humidity around them, but what if the heat blanket is around a container containing the jars?

I'd place the jars in a plastic container wrapped with a heat blanket, is it a good idea?

Thanks

I always have heard horror stories associated with heat blankets. I would suggest trying another method that can asure better safety. Like a tit or heat bomb.

I'm on my first grow, have been incubating my 12 jars for over a week now using a heating pad, and have been getting a constant 84 degrees.

The jars are incubating in a sealed container with the heating pad off to the side on low setting, they're not in direct contact. Like someone else said just experiment until you get it right.

DO NOT use a heating blanket unless you want to take a chance on killing your babies. They are a bad fire hazard. Type electric blanket in the search box. You will see what I mean. Look into the Tub in tub method. It will cot $22 for a fish tank heater and $8 for two tubs. If you can't do that leave them at room temp. DO NOT use a heating blanket.

Elec. blanket=dead mycellium, red fire trucks, and worse of all blue uniforms

A heating pad is better than a blanket, but the Tub in tub is still safer.

84 degree is way to hot. Kick it down to 72-75 and your mycellium will grow quicker. DO NOT shoot for 86 degrees. Your jar will be approx. 6 degrees hotter than their environmnt, which puts you at 90. That is counter productive. Jars (not environment) should be between 80-82 for best results. Check my posts from yesterday, and see for yourself. Good Luck!

Heating blankets are an accident waiting to happen...

they were not made to be used 24/7...day after day...for weeks at a time.

If you can't afford to make an incubator properly...

store your jars over your frig, the freezr, or on top of the hot water heater.

if you have a cabinet over your stove or frig...put them in there.

If your home is heated...you can incubate your jars at room temp.

it might take a little longer than a incubator...

but they will colonize.

Please don't burn your house down using a heating blanket!~
