Electric Blanket (how to disable auto off)
    #7607479 - 11/07/07 03:43 PM (16 years, 6 months ago)

This will be my 1st grow and I have all the equipment ready to go, just waiting on spores. Anyway, I'll be using an electric blanket to cover the incubator with and then use it again for my terrarium but leaving one side uncovered.

With this setup @ 68F ambient temp and blanket set to 3 (it goes from 1-10) I'm getting a cozy 84F inside the said incubator and blanket set to 2 and one side uncovered, I'm getting 74F for the terrarium. Granted, I don't have any holes drilled yet in the terrarium container but if there is a fluctuation, I can compensate for that easily.

Anyway, my question is, this electric blanket has a feature where it turns itself off every 10 hours. Probably a security thing but the blanket never gets warm enough to need that feature at the low settings that I'll be using it for and so I was wondering if there is a way to disable this thing...

I thought about getting a timer that automatically cuts power and turns it back on, thus resetting the blanket but once the power is cut and back on, the blanket stays in the off position so either way, I would have to manually push the button to turn it back on.

I might end up returning it if I can't find a solution to this as my work schedule can be erratic sometimes and I could be away for 12-14 hours at a time, that's up to 4 hours where the temps could drop to an unwanted level for both the incubator and the terrarium.

Any help is appreciated

there will be a "timer" in the control. you probably want to soder the pins in the back of that together.

OR plug it in to a trimer that goes off for 15 min every 8 hours to reset it..

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

I second the timer idea, and say that you should just get a cheap outlet timer and have it go off for 5~10 minutes every 8 hours or so....wait you said it has to be reset manually anyways...hmmm....I'd just return it actually!

Cheers and goodluck - boingkster

if you had a multi meter you could wait till it clicks over and then figure out how to bypass it by looking for whre the current stops..
