How deep of a chip bed? I think mine was 5-6 inches deep. Do you think that was sufficient? It was getting chilly but we had high temperatures again. I think it'll get cold in a couple days. No pins yet but the myc is going crazy.

Sometimes it drives me batshit how pot A will fruit the very next season, and pot B needs to think about it for two years.

That's a great depth.  Most successful beds seem to be 3-5, I wouldn't personally go deeper than 6 and shoot for about four.

That’s about the maximum you want. Maybe a little less.

Checking on a very aggressive ovoid patch for winter fruits. Nothing yet, but it looks good and vigorous. Already have some nice ropey mycelium growing on some of the newly fallen leaves.

Very dry and hot weather. I can water only ones per week but harvest some fruits.

Did you see Ovoid in winter yet? I thought they fruit mostly in spring?

Not once in the 3-4 years been messing with them!  The ovoids are opposite in season to a lot of posters here.

I usually feed at the end of spring which I think puts my patches in colonization mode.  This patch I fed a handful of chips once a week or so and has already ripped through all the feeding I did.  It is at the surface chips already.  I have the best hope for winter fruits this year.  Keeping a small layer of leaves on top to protect.

We'll see if we get a warm and wet spell in November.  That would probably be the best chance.  I am keeping it moist.

I’ve seen a few winter ovoid fruits here, mostly in the spring and this is the first fall I’ve had them pop up. I think ovoid overall fruit whenever they’re damn good and ready as long as the environment is right. Not that the cyan clade doesn’t break the rules once and awhile and throw up some summer fruits.

I have seen many Ovoids in the fall.  If conditions are right they will fruit twice a year.  In the spring they will make smaller fruits and fruit in great number.  Spring fruits tend to be less potent.  In the fall they make fewer fruits, but they are larger and much more potent.  The harsh PNW summers we've had the past few years may be causing less fruiting in the fall.

Tried to focus more on the edge:

This was transferred from a T0 spore plate. It is supposedly from a Serbica print (5 years old).

So is this contam? I've never seen something like this before.

Excited to see this one pop.  I found this 7-8 years ago and snagged the stem butt.  It appeared to be a mature active but was tiny.  Maybe 2-3 of them.  The myc too several years to show much growth.  I gave up and threw it outside 2 years ago I think.  Anyway.

Ive not worked with serbica, but that doesn't look like any of its relatives Ive played with. I would bet on contamn. but it does look more complex. how fast is it going?

It's about as fast as normal mycelium. The agar recipe is malt extract, yeast, agar and some active carbon powder (i know not needed but gives a nice contrast).

Two and a half years after the bed was put in,some allenii in Missouri

Another bed down by a lake edge looks like it might fruit also. Hoping that they might take off in the willow/grass debris.

Yeah ovoids really consume fallen debris and dead grasses throughout the winter. In the spring you can often find areas of stilt grass where all the blades are matted together by mycelium.
