Haha I hear ya. I just doubt that I’ll be able to find SN APE again any time soon so I’m invested . P9’s perspective in particular has me wondering if it’s worth the time & materials. I’ve never had scalloped myc, & all I can find about it says that it’s fucked. It’s been a while since those posts, so I’m curious to see if anyone’s had any luck.

I also lack the knowledge to understand whether or not a mycoparasite would prevent me from desperation fruiting->cloning as I would with other contams

I’m not sure scalloping means anything. I’ve run scalloped plates that were fine in the past. Sometimes the myc be wildin.

I guess I’m curious about this whole conversation.

To me, a noob, those plates look fine. What is wrong with them?

In my little experience working with agar
I went spore > agar > slurry > inoculated grain and LC jars and everything was fine I think.

The grain took off fine and all my subsequent grows have been from those first slurries.  The LC is growing but i do have a low success rate inoculating with it. I definitely didn’t have rizo growth on that plate i slurried and used.

What am I missing here?

Same shit I'm missing :liottalol:

As far as I understand it,those patterns deviate from the desired look and thus are suspect. But we (at least I) don't know exactly why. It could be pathological, contamination, environmental, genetics, the weather on Mars.

There's posts here and there from TCs and others who are looking into it but I haven't managed to see some kind of communally accepted interpretation emerge from their research.

The wisps, the rings and the scalloping, what do they meaaan man

After two years of using condiment cups I finally made the step to petris. I see myself using both options in the future though.

Here’s the T1. A clearer example of scalloping than the t4. I keep transferring uniform myc just for it to do the thing again after a week of growth. Though it’s better on the T4, it’s still there. But SH’s take is enough for me, I’ll send it & find out

Hell yeah milkboy  I still use my no-pours for sure

Oh yeah that looks more like it.

Try getting some 60mm petris and doing a bunch of biopsies (needle pokes)? Although it usually really shows after a certain point so the 60mm might not let it grow large enough to see it.

Here's one of mine, unfortunately I didn't take a pic of how it ended up looking before I put it to grain. Every one of those wedges (even the ones that are barely visible) expanded. Probably had like 5 or 6 different pieces growing. That's a 90mm petri so I wouldn't have even seen it in a 60mm.

Ahhhhh got it. Well, don’t got it. But that’s like basically getting it in this case. So, got it. 😂

I have heard that PE varieties can be slow to colonize. These are transfers I did from source plates on the same day. Golden Teacher on the left and APE-R on the right. I put a wedge of the GT in a grain jar of brown rice i prepared on the same day too and the jar is already 50% colonized. I just wish APE-R worked as fast.

Aspergillus niger? It's a black slime mold.

I know we all have strong feelings about contam but using that kind of language is uncalled for.
