I've used some and they are PP5
top and bottom.  My only complaint
is the lids aren't easy to get off.

I have them now and hate them. The lids are hard to get off and they crack easily. I don't know if it's from PC'ing then but I've gotten 2 uses out of them before the lids crack. Also I think cause they are hard to remove the lid it causes more contams around the outer edges of the plate. I'm sticking with the holy grail plates.

haven't got a picture currently but wanted to post before I forgot -

I've got a load of plates colonising at the moment from a t3 master plate, they're all growing like upwards as much as outwards on day 7, super thick too. anyone know what this kind of growth means? haven't witnessed it before.

First pin clone! Looks like a fatty pin too. Kinda burnt it a bit when I picked it up with the tweezers though ๐Ÿ˜ฌ



Another plate had this monstrosity. Not sure wtf it is or if it is mold on its side but I moved it to a new plate anyway.



Looked kinda like a blueish/greenish sunflower on the face down. Some weird shit was going on on that plate's mycelium so not sure what to make of it.

I have a couple of plates here I would like an opinion on from some more experienced eyes

T1 plates from spore swab showing thick white growth -- is this healthy/normal looking growth? (this is my first time starting from spore swab) or is this indicative of an immune response to the presence of contamination? I have heard of the idea of โ€œenmeshedโ€ contamination which may not necessarily be apparent as separate growth on the 2D agar surface

Personally, I look for symmetry with my plates, al9ng with a very fine leading edge when held up to the light. Those transfer pieces are a little big, you may get symmetry after it grows out a bit more.

Bubbles. Itโ€™s from the syringe I used. Last of the agar pour, used a syringe to get the rest out of jar. I have had issues in the past with pours so Iโ€™ve been using a sterile plastic squeeze syringe (idk if thatโ€™s the right terminology). Last couple plates came out bubbly but it didnโ€™t cause any issues thankfully.

Today is my first time making agar cups. I modified 24 pp5 condiment cups by burning a slot in the side and covering it with two layers of micropore tape, I also got some holy grail cups and made up 14 of them. My agar recipe was 500 ml water, 7 grams LME, 9 grams agar and 1 gram peptone. I stacked the cups 7 high and wrapped them with heavy duty aluminum foil. In to the PC for A 20 minute cycle (happening right now) fingers crossed all turns out well!

Thanks, I saw it on one of the many many teks I read here. The author of the tek used a screwdriver to make the holes, I used a support wire from an old windshield wiper.

On that other site I saw someone who was happily using these dirt cheap pp5 containers. The poster stated that they are leaky enough that they can be sealed in the PC without imploding, but are then contamination-resistant in handling. Anyone around here tried them?
