Neither look like either of those things. Looks like germinated spores to me. I don't see bacteria and if mold is there it's not showing it's self.

Quick question...

For Agar (my first time)

I've got 40 plastic petri dishes

(so I can't put them in the pc)

Is that OK?

Second, I can't find a recipe for WBS agar...

(I know how to use the search engine. I've  been all over this site...present and past)

Question is, from reading and inferring...

I need 500ml of WBS water that I had soaked the wbs in?

I've got Agar Agar

10mg of that?

Do I need honey?(How much?)

And do I still need to add potato flakes to this combination?

It's seems there are as many different ways to make agar as their are members on this site...

So, any help would be appreciated. I'm not afraid to read, so a link to an obvious thread that Ive missed will suffice...

I also realize that the answer could be in the 1k plus pages of THIS very thread...

But that's a bit more than I'm willing to dig through on an off chance the answer is there.

Thanks. AT

Your petri dishes should be encased in plastic and sterilized at the facility you purchased them from. If you have them opened up you'll need to acquire more as they wont be sterile for use.
500ml of grain soak water(WBS, Oat, Wheat, Rye) will have all the nutes you need, mix with 10g of agar and PC for 20-30min for use.
You wont NEED potato flakes, honey, or other additions if you're using grain soak water.

Thanks.

I've read Bods EAF teks...through...multiple times. While they are amazing, he posts a link to recipes in the agar tek, but the thread doesn't actually make clear those things I was having to infer.

I just wanted to get clarification.

Mush love to bod for creating all the content he has. He's been my primary source for this new cultivating...endeavor.

His teks have guided me through everything thus far

Alright well to clarify the recipes for you. Honey isn't used as much anymore in agar. Some folks still go with it and it helps in some areas.
Potato flakes are used to make Potato Dextrose Agar(PDA):
10g of Potato flakes are dissolved into distilled water and mixed with 10g agar for use. Very simple.

Grain Soak water is water held for at least 24hrs with a grain such as rye, wheat, wbs, oats, etc. Nutrients will naturally soak into this water which you then collect for use later in agar. 500ml of grain soak and 10g of agar is all you need. I suggest Rye over all other grains for soak water.

You can use Light Male Extract in your agar(LMEA):
15g LME + 10g agar + 500ml distilled water
PC for 20-30min for use.

Most recipes are quite similar and I've only gone over the three most commonly used ones that I see on a regular basis.

Yeah, I went out looking for Malt Extract earlier as I thought it was necessary but it's damned hard to find...

Then what I was reading led me to believe that all I needed was the grain soak and agar...

But further reading seemed to indicate that I needed to add the potatoes...

Anyway, I promise I'm not stupid...just a little confused after spending hours trying to pinpoint an actual recipe for the wbs...

But this leads me to another question...as you said it was 24 hours soaking...mine didn't soak that long...

I did Foo's method of boiling water, adding the wbs to it and letting it soak for just over an hour...

The water I pulled off of that is very dark, so I would think there is probably enough nutes in there for the agar...

But maybe not...

That's a great way to do it, you can boil your grains no problems to make grain water.
I mention the 24hr soak because I make my own spawn jars/bags using rye grain which is soaked for around 24hrs, I collect that soak water for use in agar. Boiling is the same effect but faster.

The specific amount of grain water you have doesn't really matter.  If you keep boiling it, you will have a more concentrated grain water.  You can always add water to get it up to 500ml or whatever you're making.

The only part about GWA that I don't like is that it's hard to know how much nutes you're actually putting in.  I've started to experiment with it a bit to try to determine how much I need to use for a given apparent color of GW.  It's  never going to be very accurate though.

It's always good to be careful but once I started looking I was really surprised by how big the legal gourmet mushroom hobby is. Heck my Presto PC instructions specifically mentioned mushroom cultivation. I was like "damn I guess everyone is doing this."
