APE-R / Redboy Revert / Lizard King / PF Classic

Edit 1-1-23: Plan to put PF classic syringe on agar
Update 1-1-2023 7:58am
Spores going on agar right now. Spores to agar using inoc loop.
15 APE-R
10 RR
10 PF Classic
10LK --(I still am not 100% certain this is a legit variety. From what I've gathered could be a stabilized clone from GT. Gonna grow the shit out of it regardless)
Update 1-1-2023 8:03pm
Ready to noc sterile pp5 2oz cups with APE-R, et al.

I have 1 print, 2 swabs (RR & LK) & 1 syringe (PF classic)
Got my 5 Redboy cups noc'd

Got Redboy, Lizard King & APE-R noc'd

Done with PF Classic now too. I used just a wee drop of the syringe for each pla
te (5)

So all together from spore, I have 5 RR, 5 LK, 3 APE-R & 5 PFC
Can't wait to see the action in the next 3-10 days. Happy growing everyone and happy new year!
Edit: 1.7.23

Germination on LK, PF Classic & APE-R.
Update 1.17.23
All plates have germinated except for 2 (APER 3 & PF Classic 5)
All plates are clean except for APE-R 1 which developed contamination (Trichoderma). See pictured below.

Since there was only one tam, this represents a 5.6% contam rate.
Here's the contam:

Poor guy who didn't germinate

A few pictures of my best performers:

As you can see, most of them are more than ready to be transferred. Lizard King took off and outperformed all the other germ plates. From what I've gathered this variety is most likely a stablized Golden Teacher clone.
PF Classics were given a drop each from a homogenized syringe. Germination was fast and growth is thick and radial.
Redboys were slowest to germinate, with one only showing signs of growth 3 days ago on the 12th of January.
Only have one APE-R left, so hope he works out.
It is time for transfers. As soon as my K-cups arrive in the mail I'll post some updates. Until then, happy growing and good luck to everyone. Thanks for reading!

Update 2.5.23

t1's of all lineages xfer 1.26:

All cups are showing "cloudy" tomentose growth. I'm not sure if that's common for this variety.

APE-R
Disappointed in the two APE-R transfers I took from the donor cup. One seems to be segmenting and the other is displaying atypical behavior compared to the rest of his brethren. I hope to establish a stable lineage through a cloning project I am currently getting pretty deep into.
You already know ill be back soon with more.
Update 3.1.23I took the two most recent LK transfers and expanded them to 10 cups

I inoculated 12 quart jars with Redboy
First I rinsed my oats once throuoghy to get all the dirt and detritus off.

Then I coiled at a rolling boil for 38 min

Then I dried for 2.5-3hrs with box fans laid out in a thin layer on garbage bags.

Updates to come. Progress has been slow going and I'm expanding one variety at a time. I plant to expand pf classic to 10 jars, and ape revert to 12 jars.
Update 3.5.23
redboy revert coming along nicely, late to the party but it seems to be a reasonably quick colonizer.
I took lizard king out to t2 10 cups.

I took some transfers too. I took pf classic out to 8 t2s.

Update 4.20.23
lk coming along
redboy revert from 3-5

pfclassic from 3-27:

from 3-30:

Ok I'm back to check for the first time in over a month. A lot has happened, and I want to get right to it.
Due to a massive temperature fluctuation outside, all 12 of my redboys, with the exception of one lead jar, have stalled.

I shook a second lead recovery jar 2 days ago on the 18th. There are almost no signs of recovery even after 48hrs. What signs there are seem negligible. The mycelium doesn't want to spread. I spawned the lead jar into a shoebox on 4-17; it seems to be growing normally. I see healthy rhizomorphic, root-like growth. There are four other jars sitting around 85-90% that I'm still holding out hope for.

If all else fails, I have a redboy cupin to clone. Starting from almost scratch might suck right now but you have to learn to take your l's like a man.

pf classic cultures have all been sent to bulk. My main tub consists of pfc t3's (3) spawned at 1:4 in a 66qt ez-dial. I sent these on 4-16 and so far there are no adverse signals.

I suspected slight bacterial presence in at least 1 of the jars, but otherwise, they all smelled strongly of clean mushroom spawn. I took a risk combining them into one tub but I think I will see decent flushes from this tub.
The others have been spawned to 6qt shoeboxes.

Jar no. 4 was lead jar so it got spawned first at 1:3 +1qt top layer. Seems to be colonizing just fine. One jar, pfc no. 1 seemed baccy, no.1. So on 4-16 I spawned it solo into a shoebox@1:2 + 1qt top layer. I am eager to see how it performs and I wonder if it will trich out before I see pins or a flush.
Here's pf classic no. 1

Pics from the baccy shoebox

No growth peeping through the top layer so far but patience is key. Everyone i trust and respect in cult has been telling me that a top layer can be very beneficial and lead to flushes that just give and give. I know it's not advisable to add and increased volume of substrate to an infected or bacterial jar, but I'd like to see how it performs at a 1:2/1, even if it decides to trich out or the like early on or post-first flush. My instincts tell me this jar is strong enough to survive, but my head suspects impending failure.
albino penis envy revert is on the way, currently on agar. I have 8 healthy and clean looking t3s I took out on 4-9. (3 from each t2 parent) which I plan to send to millet this week sometime.
Lizard King was the most prolific grower early on, and it remained that way throughout colonization.

getting close.

Getting ready to spawn the King
1 650g brick coir
2.5-3qt vermiculite

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I currently have 6 lk spawned, 2 of them pinning. The rest of them (no. 1, 6-8) are slowly but surely spreading out and taking over the substrate.
no. 1
no. 10
Not the pinset I was hoping for, but satisfactory at minimum. I noticed a correlation (not a causation) between the light and uniform directional growth, as no. 10 was below another shoebox prior to the photograph. I thought this also might be why they started out so skinny and long for cube pins. I didn't want spaghetti, so I moved it to the top to allow for more FAE and hopefully well-developed mature fruits.
All 6 lizard king are part of an impromptu experiment I designed, or more aptly a pseudo-scientific endeavor born out of nothing other than sheer curiosity. I spawned all 6 mycoqt, which smelled very strongly of clean spawn, into the shoeboxes (6qt) at different volume, adding a top-layer to a few. In an effort to reduce the number of confounding variables present, I used the same culture for all 3 group in the experiment.
Hypothesis: Spawn is likely bacterial but only just so. The bloom isn't hardcore enough to disrupt colonization or allow for immediate contam.
control = spawn at 1:1/no top layer (jars 9,10)
independent 1 = 1:2/+top layer (lk no. 7 given 1qt top layer; lk no. 8 was given a 1/2qt top layer to see how it would perform.)
independent 2 = 1:3/+ top layer ( top layer excluded from no. 1 in order to measure colonization rates and speed of growth between different casings or lack thereof.)
LK no. 1-2 6, 8-10 (6 jars total) were used in this data-gathering mission.
So far the spawn is presenting clean. There is thick, healthy looking rhizomorphic patterns of growth and surface conditions are perfect. There are tiny beads of moisture clinging to the myc in each box but not in excess. One note on this is wiping the underside of the lid, which I practice with most all of my tubs and shoeboxes. I have had it happen plenty of times before where excess condensation led to pooling, allowing bacteria to bloom and contam to enter. I know opening the container can increase FAE and bring it to undesirable levels. Also, cubes don't need to be fanned. But in this case they were so wet I didn't see the harm in taking the lid off for a few seconds.
Here are some pics of the other 4 boxes. I noticed one of them has started to pin slightly as well when I got up from writing to take the picture. there are only very few pins; I hope it isn't early pinning triggered by bacterial presence.
lk pinning, possibly premature^^^
I will return in a few days to a week with wet and dry harvest weights as well as progress from my other varieties.
Also of note are the pins or cupins that have presented on several of my t1s
redboy revert t1 from 1-26 start of the year has developed some fruit and quite a nice pin cluster in the middle.
I plan to take a clone from the cluster and expand it to 12 jars. Time to try again on the redboys.
Also some pin action on some aper xfers; there's around 4 of them with pins.
Update 4.22.23
We have liftoff!
Lizard King, which I understand is likely a stabilized GT clone, is performing well. 4/6 boxes of that yet to pin.
Update 4.24.23
For those of you who don't want to bother reading through the whole post, I grew some brown cubes.
LK(pic'd 2,3,5) & PE(4) in 6qt shoeboxes.
LK spawned 4-2 @1:1 without top layer. pins spotted 4-17(pic 1)
Update 4.27.23
Will return with wet and dry weights.
edit: 53 dry grams
Hey cult, a few updates..
The Redboy Reverts were a wash. I currently have one shoebox of RR s2b 4-17. 1mycoqt spawn @1:3 with a 1qt top layer.
PF Classic shoebox no.1 lost to Trichoderma. Toss.
This was the spawn I used to inoculate. Many jars suffered from excess condensation due to extreme temp swings.
First I spawned Lizard King (very late, was decently solidified) no.2 in a 6qt shoebox @1:3 with a 1qt top layer. This one smelled problematic (musty, slightly sweet), shook with difficulty and left clumps behind in the middle.
Then I spawned pfclassic no. 3-5 in a 66qt Sterilite converted into a Pasty-style ezdial. 3mycoqt spawn @1:4 with a 6qt top layer. I compressed with a thick, flat plastic tupperware, putting all of my weight down until it was packed down as far as it would go without springing back up too much. Smelt like fresh mush, overconsolidated.
Finally I spawned pf classic x2 mycoqt spawned to 2 6qt shoeboxes @1:3 with a 1qt top layer. Smelt like fresh mushrooms, shook with difficulty (overconsolidated)
Lizard King no.1 (s2b 4-2) harvested. First flush yield 321g wet, 22.3g dry
lkno.1 bottom watered for 24hrs.
update 5-13
update 5-17-23
I have had luck, both good and bad.
I have been lax in recording notes and keeping track of dates. My Redboys were a forgone conclusion as soon as the lid was shut after tiger drop. At first I suspected unusually high temperature fluctuations, which led to excess condensation, caused the jars to bac out. But in order for that to happen it had to have been there all along, perhaps just in negligible amounts. The spawn eventually would have tammed out I think, but the temp swing accelerated and fueled the takeover and led to poor results and sparse flushes. Many of my other lineage explorations were also affected by this.
One was lost to trichoderma on 5-9-23 (RR, s2b 4-17, @1:3+1qt top layer) and another one was lost during this time as well. I am currently growing them out from pin clone again, which I chronicle in my journal entry Redboy Cupin Clone Endeavor (5-2)
The LK shoeboxes have produced several flushes but I have not been keeping track.
LK no.6 was lost to trich, date unknown.
LK no.8 pic'd below
pfc genetics
The pf classic monotub (jars no.3-5) gave a decent first flush with large fruits, but I didn't harvest in time, so it shot its load.
Had some big awesome fruits to show!
finished dry wt. 57.8g
The two pf shoeboxes spawned 4-29 are doing well; one has broken through the top layer with aerial mycelium and is developing early primordia, the other shows promising growth on the sides, and is working its way through the top layer.
I have a 66qt ezdial mono with a thriving pf colony going as well, which is just beginning to show its head through the casing layer.
I still have "ape-r" (actually PE or something similar) on agar. Plans to expand when I get some of my other projects dialed in.
I would like to thank all the wonderful people who have welcomed me into this community. For their kindness and magnanimity I am forever grateful and humbly obliged to give back. If you are interested in any f2 prints or swabs I have them available for each category/variety accounted for in the log except for pfc & lk. I am also working on stabilizing a pe cluster clone that performed at an exceedingly high level. Read more about my trials with pe (same ape-r print mentioned here) here and here. Simply priv me your details using privnote. I will also be posting a giveaway in the marketplace forum. It is the one way I feel I can tangibly give back and contribute to the community right now.
Thank you to all who have helped and inspired me along the way; I have nothing left to record.
Declaration of negligence:
Some tubs and shoeboxes were left to over-mature and sporulate from negligence.
Statement of conflict of interest:
Decaration of competing interest none.
