First update in a while. Got too busy and my first rounds of spawn went green, but I am still working. I have some ms Gandalf mutants coming in, and a PE clone culture on agar that I am excited about, from one of the PF pucks I made early on, but for pics, here’s the Gandalf fruit I just cloned the other day (also from a PF puck)

It only took 4 1/2 months to grow, lol, but that’s pheno I have been hoping to see show up somewhere in the Gandalf ms for cloning.

It's never too late to join LAGM..Unless you waited until 2023, then you'd have to join that one. Let me know if you're still interested and I'll get you on the list

I kind of fell off of keeping track of my grow but yeah I think it will be fun anyway. Thank you. Plus it will give me some experience doing this so I'm better prepared for next year.

Bigworm's LAGM 2.022 Log
Growing:
P. Cubensis Melmac TP

Sorry for joining so late but I didn't start this hobby until early March and was no where near ready for agar at the time. If I'm doing this wrong let me know. Well, let's get into it.

4-18-22
I got my swabs and streaked a few plates with 1 of 2 swabs. Then they say for about a month with no activity.

5-11-22
I took the second swab and smashed it into a new plate and streaked it once some agar was built up on the tip. Then I cut the heaviest spore part of the tip off and jammed it into the plate.

5-23-22
Here are the results about 10 days later. I was actually going to throw them out of nothing happened for to the ugliness around the swab. I took transfers from both and they went on separate plates to be safe.

I also grabbed one of the original plates to toss it out and saw this

6-?-22 I took my 2nd clean up transfers from both plates. I dropped 1 after a day sitting there and the transfer rolled around.

6-?-22
I took 1 last transfer and when they grew out to about 2/3 of the plate(which only took a couple of days) I took the best looking one cut a piece out and put it into a slant. The rest of each plate went to 2qt of oats for each. Sorry no pics.

6-23-22
Spawned to bulk in 27qt modified tubs. I normally use pastywhytes dialed in mono but just use a smaller tub size. For these I heard increased FAE is a good thing so I added a 2" hole at the sub level and taped them off until it's needed on one tub. The other I left as my normal setup. I just wanted to see if FAE really did help. I used C/V/G gypsum was added at 8%. Spawn ratio was 1:2 with a 1 inch pseudocasing compressed. I didn't use liners like I planned because I forgot and wanted to get these into bulk ASAP.

Ones tub smelled perfectly fine the other had a gasoline scent to it which I chalked up to the plastic of the bin. It has since disappeared but I did note which one it was. All spawn smelled like it should, so I let it roll.

7-1-22
They started breaking through the pseudocasing.
Bin 1

Bin 2

7-10-22
I been having a hell of a time getting the water to bead up on the surface of the mycelium in bin 2. I'm using an ultra fine mister and it was going great, then it started to just soak in to the mycelium. I lightly mist just so it won't dry and no beads form. Bin 1 has changed a little and is a little fluffier than bin 2. Also bin 1 is not through the casing 100% yet either. I'm keeping an eye on it. Although it goes not look like trich I still separated it from my lab and other projects, just as a precaution.

Bin 1

Bin 2. I think I have knots forming!

7-13-22
I have premordia/pins in bin 2! Now to see these babies get huge.

7-17-22

Bin 1- no pins yet.
Bin 2- new pins are popping up daily. The first 2 are starting to get bigger but, damn, these things are slow growing! I've never grown any PE/Mac variety before so I hope they look right.

update 7-19-22

Bin 1: no real change except more knotting so hopefully I see pins soon.

Bin 2: I cracked the corner of my sub trying to remove a side pin. Next time I'll use a liner. More pins and it's looking like a good pin set to me. I hope these are supposed to be narrow at the very base if not, I have some kind of contamination.

7-23-22
Bin 1: I have pins finally!

Bin 2: I noticed a green blue bruising color on the caps of the 2 biggest fruits. Another member said they looked bacterial so I harvested the 2 and decided to to swab or clone them. If they are bacterial I don't want to have a mess on agar to clean up. If they aren't no loss I'll clone others. Let me know what y'all think.

7-26-22
Getting some bigger fruits in bin 2. I took the other 2 out that didn't look good. They weighed 68g dry combined.  They tasted good and worked very very well. I believe I was right thinking the bin got too warm as I'm getting a lot of aborts so hopefully it recovers and produces better after this flush.
Here are the healthier ones in bin 2

Bin 1 still pinning but going super slow. Hopefully they have reason to be slow.
7-28-22
This will be my last update for a while.

Well it was harvest day for bin 2. The fruits started to look a little wrinkly and green blue around the edge of the caps. I managed to get 516g wet out of this harvest with the biggest fruit being 68g. The other 3 fruits I removed weighed in at 10g dry total (roughly 93% water weight). It wasn't the most productive grow I've ever had but that's due to my mistakes. I'm hoping I get a 2nd flush from it but I'm not holding my breath. I took swabs and clones. Hopefully that improves the next time I grow these, if I ever decide to again.

Bin 1 still going slower than molasses on a cold day. Not to mention it's a totally different looking pheno. They are thinner and only growing in sparse clusters between the surface mycelium. I scraped a corner where the surface was covered by the mycelium "film" and it peeled off. Maybe it is holding pins back from forming as I see knots under it but they aren't growing. Only time will tell and after a month of waiting for the first pins I can only imagine it'll be another month.

On to a Natalensis grow, and a few others.

8-8-22 final update

Bin 1: I'm thinking it's bacterial as nothing looks good in it at all. All the fruits are small and just ugly. I'm going to bury it in my yard and see what happens.

Bin 2: 2nd flush came in throwing a nice pheno in my eyes. I love the look of these. Some fell over and I had to harvest them a bit early but I waited a couple days to pull these and I'm glad I did. I'm going to see if I can get a third flush out of this tub since the other one contaminated and isn't producing like this one at all. 10.5"long 57g wet was the biggest. Total wet weight 1000g, and that's with 84g missing from the ones that fell over. Drying now and I'm moving onto dropping agar onto more grains. Since it seems this thread died-Till next year LAGM see ya!  Here's my photo dump. Yes the bowl tare weight was taken off.

I'm happy with these results, and the trips are awesome with these too!

Thanks bigfootscreepyuncl! I'm building my spore collection as much as I can from the generosity of members in the marketplace so, I hope I can add some varieties soon. I do have one I'm waiting for it to germinate so it may be sooner than later.

Decided to use my FP+ grow for LAGM because it's my most compete grow log.. I've got some germ plates that are looking good, so I may add more varieties soon.

FP+
6/15-

2 of my plates are starting to show some growth in a couple spots, it looks clean..no signs of contamination 🤞 hopefully I'll have something to transfer in a few days. I'll post pics before transferring.

6/18-

Plates have a couple spots that look like they're worth transferring. Was having issues with this agar recipe stalling out, so I'm probably going transfer to new plates tomorrow or Monday.

6/25-

So, I've only got a couple spots of growth to work with, but I've got my fingers crossed 🤞

I took 1 transfer from one of the 2 bigger "puff balls".. I decided to leave the rest on the germ plate for now to come back to later.

6/27- looks like my T1 plate is doing good, it's already showing a tiny bit of healty growth.. and my germ plate is starting to show more visible growth coming from the swab 🤞 I thought I was going to need to use my second swab right away, but it looks like I might end up with something I can work with.. I'll update pics in a few days.

7/4- my T1 from 6/27 is showing some growth,, I think it's tomentose.. going to ask for opinions in the Agar Envy thread

my germ plate is showing more growth. Going to take more transfers tonight

7/10 all 3 germ plates now have a bunch of clean growth.

Here is a T2 plate

And the test jar from the T1 plate

7/12- transferred from my clean looking T2 plate, made a few T3s before I accidentally ran out of plates 😅 used the rest of the plate to inoculate 3 more jars.

It's been a slow start because I only had enough growth at first to make 1 T1 plate, but things are starting to move a little quicker now

7/13- inoculated another jar with a T2 plate. The growth pattern was a little funny, but I think the sample hit 2 spots on the plate before finding its final resting place. All the growth looked clean but I only used the uniform growth. (forgot to take picture)

7/21- just a quick update on my jars.. I shook all but these 2 before I remembered to take a picture. The mycelium was definitely more difficult to break up than normal

Here is an example of my T3 plates

7/24 quick jar update

7/29 The two on the left are FP+, one on the right is Phobos.. one of the FP+ is ready, the other needs another day

7/30- I used a T3 plate to make a couple T4 plates and inoculate another 5 jars. Forgot to take a picture of the plate, but it was clean looking tomentose growth..

I was planning on spawning the 2 jars that are ready, but the power is out at my house so I'm going to wait until tomorrow

8/9- quick update picture of some of my FP+ jars

I've got a couple jars that are ready to spawn, but I've had people at my house the past few days and have had to keep my grow on the DL. I'll spawn them sometime tomorrow

One of my fahtlocks is fully colonized but has some metabolites, so I'm not sure if it will make it.. the other bag looks really good so far

Natalensis
7/21- used 1 Nat swab to streak 3 plates and stabbed the swab tip in the last plate

8/1- the germ plate that I stabbed has a bit of growth.. it looks like the swab stick had some nasties that found their way to the to the agar and took over the top half of the plate. There is also some bacteria at the bottom of the plate..

Saw 3 decent looking sectors of growth between 5 o'clock and 7 o'clock. Took 1 transfer of each.

8/11- I decided to just let the T1s I made sit on the sidelines for now.. I took a few transfers from this other germ plate and moved them to YMEA plates instead of the charcoal MEA plates.

Helluva wait, but these things are powerful. Good luck getting back from middle earth after a cup of wizard tea.

Looking forward to seeing how the clones do.
