1.5 batch of CV is steaming in the cooler - Gandalf is going to shoeboxes today (I might try a zipBlock in honor of Faht, since these are his genetics)! I wanted to run everything in 16qt minis but Target carries a different brand now and they look flimsy and are like $5 each.

@SmartAttack - I'll be taking that awesome punch tool on it's maiden voyage today on 4 different plate pins  thanks again man this thing kicks ass!

Were you running the purple latch type? I hope they didn't stop carrying those. I love those things and use them in several sizes.

No I was just using the cheap $2 tubs with the white lid that doesn't latch. IIRC they still have all the various sizes and colors of the good tubs. It will bug the crap out of me but I'll just have to run mis-matched tubs..stupid OCD

Same. I seriously envy all the people I see running a hodge-podge of jam and pickle and peanutbutter jars. So much cheaper and more practical and smart but, damn my OCD.

Ok guys, I think I have settled on my consolation prize for everyone. :awesomenod:

I made a pretty nifty thing last year inspired by D3's agar work. It was really cool and handy but it had some shortcomings I didn't like, so Ive been thinking of making a simpler tool with no moving parts and easy handling for making circular punch transfers quick and easy in one tool.

The thing I really wanted was a tool that does both the step of punching and transferring in one item and I wanted the process to be faster and easier than using a scalpel, in other words I wanted the ultimate transfer tool.

So here's the doohicky (no clever name yet):

Its a circular stainless cutting tip mounted to an aluminum shank and an insulated handle. Most importantly it also has a ground stainless needle point on the other end for transfer grabbing and placement.

Sweet little tool. Fabbing up your own tools better than buying cheap china built crap and much more fun. I used to do it quite often in my years in auto shop. I still have drawers full of hand built electrical test equipment, bearing/seal drivers and removers, C-clamps made into hand presses etc. As long as it can be sterilized and it works that's all that matters. Great ingenuity and design. Is that rubber tubing connecting the two parts of the tool?

Nah, that's on the inside of the lid of the plate. I had some crazy condensation on that batch of plates and ended up with a pool of agary goop on the roof when I let it dry out upside down.

Garlic jars, baby food jars, tupperware from thrift stores & garage sales, ziplock bags, ziplock containers, the limits are endless. Finding lids is the issues or dealing with all the sizes.
Here's one for ya no visibility!

You know as well as I do that the odds favor the latter but maybe that old dog is ready to show LAGM his new trick.

Suck it, Morgan Freeman! Gandalf has joined the party

Current setup - Jack Frost, TAT, Gandalf, Albino Cambo, AA+, Ghost, LPE and a shit load of pepper and tomato seedlings.

Jack Frost gonna be a banger

TAT about to burst like a bubble

I spawned 2 shoeboxes each of Gandalf and LPE at 1:1 with a 1 quart top layer of CV, one Ghost shoebox at 1:1 with a 1 quart top layer and one shoebox Ghost at 1:1 with a 2 quart top layer because I had a little extra. Grocery sacks are a pain in the ass for liners lol

I used 975g coir, 3 quarts fine vermiculite and 6 quarts boiling water. To my surprise fine vermiculite doesn't hold as much water as medium grade so I had to add an extra TWO quarts verm to adjust down to field capacity. I was pretty surprised by those results but it worked out.

species Cubensis
varieties: El Choco, BK Mac, Powa Mac

First entry  3/1/22

Apologies for my tardiness to the party life just caught up with, all dates are notated on the lids of the petris which I intentionally put in the pictures. Also please excuse my condensation inside and outside the dishes, some of these cultures have been in the fridge for 30 plus days before pictures were taken and in the PNW we got some weird temp swings this time of year..anyyywwaayyys..

For LAGM I wanted to include 3 varieties to start from spore which were all gifted to me by different shroomery members. El choco via "anon user", BK Mak via Faht, "unknown melmac" via PowaTrippin which will be referred to as powa mak moving forward.

I will let the pictures speak for themselves for the most part below with light editoria. All plates will be taken to t2 and sent to grain if clean cultures are curated by that time and clones from the first tubs will be selected for their secondary runs etc until I am happy with my "isolated" or close enuff genetics from these or not.

Spore Swab plates

as you can see no major issues with the swab plates outside of the powamak swab which seems to have some type of green/browning mold growing off the swab plates.
On the el choco swab I actually cut the tip of the swab into 4 plates, this a technique I used to increase chances of germination and to avoid losing something I only have a single swab of.

T1 plates

As you may notice I do a triple transfer almost always, my thought behind this it to maintain varietys of genetics for my first grain spawn and purely for aesthetics at times.

My cats decided to knock a pile of petris off a shelf in the night so the powamak looks quite funky due to the transfers bouncing around in the dish but I should still be able to select my favorite sectors regardless. El choco had some good sectors that I just thought were pretty so I took transfers off multiple plates and took them to t2, powamak and fahts bk mak need a bit more time before they make it to tier 2.

T2 Plates

As you can see El choco is the only plate on t2 at this time and will be sent to grain in the next 7-10 days.

Second entry 3/6/22

Sent el choco to grain and made transfers to the powa mak and bk mak.

Third entry 4/16/22

El choco is almost done colonizing its 4lb grain bag and powa make and bk mak are about two weeks into colonization. I sent full agar plates of each to 4 lb bags of grain. Apologies for the lack of photos a this stage will see about snapping some in the future.

fourth entry 6/18/22

almost forgot about lagm some and went on vacation for a week but we got some cool morphology on this el choco
el choco powa mak

Fifth entry 7/27/22

all two of my attempts at BK mak have triched out and I am cursed....I did finally get some small fruits in a trich tub and made a clone. Still havent sent any of my powa mak bak to grain or el choco clones to grain but sometime  this fall we might be able to finally wrap this LAGM 2022 up

That's the great thing about agar....doesn't have to be pretty to work, just clean. I just found a plate in a bag in back of my mini fridge that was half full of water that condensed. Sounds like it's time to put it to grain or something before it dies on me. Hate to waste such strong looking myc.

Finally have good germination on the later 2 plates - B+ & GT. I think I will let them grow out just a little more before taking to T1....better safe than starting over.

Still waiting on my TC T1s to take. Thankfully I have 8 jars of non-LAGM grain colonizing and thankfully no contams so far. Just picked up a sterilite 66 so I can figure out how much total spawn and sub it can comfortably hold and how high up to punch the air holes.

Yeah, those plates looked so sketchy I was almost gonna just toss them and make up more but then there was some mold on the best looking germ plate and figured I'd do an emergency transfer before it got out of hand. I still want to get to T2 in the next couple days, the blotch makes me nervous.
