Tossing old plates today.

Any reason not to keep a pinning plate in cold storage?



I could just toss it also as I have already made several transfers expanded and fruited it.
My thing is I don't want to start ANY more cultures until I get some used up or in storage so no go on using it now but I also want to keep one of the early plates to go back and draw from if I don't like the results I get from my clones.

So if anyone needs agar-agar, I tried a new brand from Amazon and after 100 plates with it I can safely report it's great. And kinda cheap compared to other brands. Here is the link if someone is interested -> 2x250g agar

These are a couple T2s I have of some jack frost from MSS, probably take them to T3 or beyond. The donor plate was kind of a mess and unorganized but all white and didn't seem to contam and the T1s still look pretty good with no contam.

These 2 are from the same T1 so whats going on with the 2 different types of myc?

They seem to have grown opposite to one another and is having both types in one plate bad?.

Would something like this be acceptable to go to grain?

Not bad at all, it’s just your cultures sectoring out. Figuring out who they want to be.

Personally I’d take from those robust looking areas and do another transfer. They don’t look dirty, so you could probably put a wedge or two to grain. I personally like to wait until T3, though.

I would love to have the optical clarity that glass provides, and I think I could get by just fine with only a 10 pack of them, so I'm looking at the same price range as the 12 pack mentioned above, maybe even a little bit cheaper. (In the near future, I would like to contribute some great quality photos of various cultures on agar, as well as how different agar recipes may change the appearance of the culture. I would consider using less visible options and wasting the cultures by opening them outside the SAB just for a photo, but would rather not.)

the glass petris provide excellent clarity imo & yeah just order a small pack & see how you like them! over time you def save money if you're willing to wash plates.

ooh, no tape. parafilm or cling wrap (i use cling wrap). wrap them like you would poured petris. i think micropore would be annoying to wrap plates with.

i do pre-pour/no pour agar in mine & they work great. they don't boil over on me.

i think i'll do a little write up on glass petris later, i realized there's not a ton of info on them if you don't really go digging on here.

I've been planning to take these to T3 at least and go from there. Might take a little piece of one and put into a SSLC I made the other day from some grain water and see what happens.

Awesome! I'll be looking forward to it! I'll be honest, when I learned the better glass ones are made of borosilicate, I got a little excited. How can you go wrong with boro?!

hi guys! these be the first five plates I've inoculated. made my first batch of MEA and poured 20 plates this weekend, finally decided to grow a pair and do some agar work.

only one showing activity is one of the oyster plates, which both were streaked with a loop, spores from a print I made from one of like five fruit bodies that came out of a log I attempted a couple years ago. the three actives are from syringes I've had stashed for a couple years, so we'll see if the spores wake up and do a thing or not.

I didn't get an answer so I figured what's the harm in trying and figuring it out for myself she's vacuum sealed and in the culture fridge now.
Next question is it ok to vacuum seal a culture?:lol:

All i do is use the micropore on oposite sides of the petri to keep it shut.
So it's 2 small pieces...works like a charm.
But yeah they are kind of heavy and slippery, visibility is amazing tho' .

I nearly had Landed Immigrant status in Canada, lost my job, and had to 30 days to leave the country. I loved having healthcare and didn't miss my guns at all. It was great NOT feeling like I needed to have gun or have to worry about getting shot if I flipped someone off on the freeway.
I'm sure Canada has changed a lot since I was there. It seems like there's more gun violence now.

I don't know why this didn't occur to me, of course cling wrap survives the pc people put it in ovens in direct contact with metal all the time.
