I personally prefer clarity but it's not necessary at all, just illustrating that the filtering etc isn't necessary either for anyone else reading and getting the sweats about making the "leap" to agar.

Adding yeasts, peptone etc, etc is great if that's what you're into but simple LMEA with distilled h20 will do everything you want without the fuckery.

So did about 15min, all done and I guess I just wait till thing unpops then I can open correct!?

Bought one of those expensive hot plates for canning, cost more than the presto, and it worked perfectly, when I got to 15psi I lowered to medium and it stayed the whole time at 15psi...

The weight literally almost made no noise, and didn't move at all...

Just a slight hiss every so often with a tiny maybe steam bubble drop...

Think things went perfectly thanks to you guys help...

My secret coin combination is 2 dimes/2knickels and one quarter shrink wrapped and double sided taped...

I moved the coins so it was centered perfectly and it just sat there...

Coin Tek...

Thats very similar to what i use.
I use 2 bitcoin, 2 etherium and 69 million doge coins as weights

Next batch of agar I make I’m not going to dissolve it before PCing and see how it comes out. Would love to trim any unnecessary work.

I tried skipping the simmer and stir one time, I botched that entire batch. The agar settled out and didn't set correctly. I'm not saying it can't be done, I'm sure someone knows how to do it and make it work. I definitely do not skip that step anymore.

The reason for losing gelling strength of agar is due to mixing the recipe in a larger vessel and then decanting to smaller vessels intended for sterilization amd pouring, the agar isn't completely dissolved and will fall out of solution;

The key is to mix your agar and nutrients together in the same bottle you intend to pour from this way all of the agar remains and you won't have gelling issues...as shown in my video posted above.

Pre boiling is 100% unnecessary, it can actually cause problems, the agar will boil in the pc, the high boiling temp of the liquid will thoroughly dissolve the agar and LME.

Boiling your agar at a lower temperature first is like bringing sand to the beach.

I used regular water, is that ok?

Depends on your local water quality.. I'd never use tap water, but my local water is shit

Regular water is fine, the reason I use distilled is because I find that the dissolved solids create a yellowish tint  to my liquids due to the high heat of the pc causing a reaction, which I don't like.

Just personal preference.

My tap water is wretched, so I use anything bottled before that. Distilled if it’s in stock, but for some reason it hasn’t been.

I forgot vinegar for the first time my last PC cycle and the collars I use to elevate the trivet are fucking white. And the jiggle weight has been spitting minerals lately. Whole thing needs a clean.

Watch out for acids, adding vinegar to your cycle can cause a reaction in your cooker that will cause some nasty pitting in the metal of on the interior base of the pot.

I get some dissolved solids on my jars but meh.

Got trolled for it in the comments section lol.

Thanks for setting me straight! I will do that next time!

Edit: For anyone reading this thread, this does NOT work for me. Even in theory it should NOT work, and I have now proven it for myself.

Agar has a higher boiling point than water, which is one reason boiling agar is so dangerous. It's hotter than boiling water, and if ever spilled on skin, it will stick to you like super hot glue.

In a PCer at 15 psi, agar STILL has a higher boiling point than water. Even if you have reached 250 degrees F, (121 degrees C), that is NOT hot enough to boil agar under the same 15 psi. If the agar doesn't boil, it doesn't get mixed and it stratifies into a layer of tough gel on the bottom, with a layer of very weak, soupy gel on top.

Pre-boiling the agar is the ONLY way that has ever worked for me, because it doesn't boil enough in the PCer to thoroughly mix. I will never again skip steps that I have already proven to myself to be necessary because someone tells me otherwise. Badges don't mean shit.

Thanks to this bad advice, I wasted an entire batch of agar jars that has to be made again. It is my hope to help others avoid making the same mistake.

I used to do the same thing, it's a pita and I was getting the same results every now and then with reduced gelling which made it difficult af to lift wedges for transfers.

Tried to get a good shot through the plate lid. I put it against a white door to hopefully make the spots easier to see. Sometimes the spots are easier to see when looking through a camera lens than with the naked eye.

This is a T3 by the way.

For me, I'm going to use the 400ml to get the yeast action as clear as I can with a coffee filter, then pour into the MB, then add the 8gmLME/8gmAGAG for 15min/15psi...

My cups actually look pretty good but as someone said they are thick so I'll do a better job with a thinner pour...
