You can't see from that pic but it's a lot of aborts down there, and caps opening on microshrooms.

I could get some Milo (Sorghum) for $18.99 / 50LBS at the local feed store. I think I'd like to probably go with this for grain spawn. Seems like a major component in most WBS and much cheaper in my area. Just wondering how people's experience with it is? Perhaps timings for an instant pot? Still not too clear on 12PSI timings other than longer than 15PSI. Thanks mates.

I've run sorghum in my instant pot many times.  3 hours is all that is needed.  You can also use a no prep method if you get your hydration level right.  To do this weigh 250g of dry sorghum, boil until properly hydrated, dry until it leaves no wetness on paper towel.  Then weight it again and the difference is the amount of water you need to add for no prep, probably 135-142g.  This is for a standard myco quart jar.

Beware of imitations though.  I read a study about using automatic home pressure cookers for sterilising surgical material in remote areas and the results were that only the intant pot brand was able to actually maintain the 12psi. Report was probably sponsored by instant pot lol.

Also vent for 10 - 25 mins

Hey guys I PCed some grain jars with modded  lids (sfd sticker, 1 thick on top of lid, not underside, 1/4" hole) for my first time. I covered the lids in foil and did everything the same as normal but some of the stickers got pulled into the jar and some stickers got fairly wet... it also looks some some of the jars gained moisture during the cycle... any advice?

Double up on the stickers maybe? Switch stickers to underside of the lids?

I double up when I use those stickers anyway, but if your filters got pulled into the jar the contents cooled too quickly and pulled a vacuum. Leave them to cool for longer in the PC.

Word ill try doubling. Should I do two on top or 1 on top 1 on the underside?

And I left then in the PC overnight before removing the jars so maybe the seal on those couple stickers weren't good or something...

Greetings, noob here, I'm preparing for my first attempt at cultivation, I'm using PF-tek and a B+ spore print I managed to get, so I made the jars but I ran into the mistake of not realizing I had no gas, so now I have to wait until tomorrow to sterilize them, is that ok to do? I assume there will be some microorganism growth but since it's getting sterilized it will probably be ok, isn't that right? Or should I just dump the jars I made and start over?

Quick question...

context: i'm in the PNW and i feel i'm running low on time for my an outdoor bed for P. Cyanescens. I have 2 qt, and about 3lb bag 85%-90% colonized. I had chipped some oak wood earlier this summer.

question: when the spawn is 100%, can i spawn to hydrated oak chips and colonize indoors (as i'm doing with my spawn) until mid/late october and then put in a planter bed and hope that triggers fruiting?

consideration: the shock/disruption of transferring bulk to outdoors.. casing, or additional layers (i've read people doing spawn to sawdust to chips?? i don't get the sawdust phase)

Hope that wasn't too long. Thanks!!

Cubes will grow fine at higher temps. You just have to be cautious of what may be lurking around the corner.

Im considering a buying a flow hood. My space is very open.. kind of like a studio apartment. Is the point of a flow hood to filter all the air in the room and provide consistent anti microbial air across your work space? My floor plan is so large there’s no way the flow hood could filter all the air in the room effectively. So I guess what I’m asking is: Does my “lab” space need to be smaller in order to filter the whole room and direct work area or will a flow hood be effective in just providing a filtered stream of air in the work space in a rather large room?

The "clean air" is just in front of you usually about 18 inches from the filter and the size x size so imagine a cube of a certain size that is "clean air"...

It probably does clean an area but it's only meant to do agar and work with spawn bags, liquid cultures etc...

Yup. For our use we don't scrub the air. Clean laminar flow. To work directly in front of.

You will be fine to let those jars sit for 24 hrs before sterilization no problem.

I poured my agar plates at around 130 F, and I still got some condensation on the plates.  I poured 20, and the bottom plates look okay, but the top plates got some moisture.  I left them all in a tall stack when I finished.

I just poured another 10 plates, and I started pouring at 125 F.  I put a glass of hot water on top of them, so hopefully, the lids will stay dry and clear.

What did I do wrong here?  Will the condensation clear up over time?

I had three weeks of 35-37 C temps in Feb.  Everything was fine though, mushrooms grew so fast.  It's way better than the 15-18 C I'm having now, everything is so slow.

When sourcing wheat, is there a specific 'type' I should look for? If I'm understanding correctly, I should get wheat berry correct?
