As I've said before, the problem is that there needs to be a general spiritual awakening amongst the general population before things can truly change for the better.

You can advocate for communism, but it won't bring about the needed spiritual change, which is necessary as the foundational stone for any meaningful societal change that will bring about improved conditions for everyone.

As things stand, the transition to a communist system without the spiritual foundational stone - impressing love & compassion into the hearts of the common man - would end up just as corrupted and broken as the current system.

This guy has one of these on both sides of PA turnpike, so two full size semi-trailers parked and painted up as Trump billboards. The picture is bad because I was driving, but here is what it reads.

"TRUMP"

"USA, God, ProLife, Coal, Oil, No Socialism"

He has a Doug Mastriano sign up right now covering the T on Trump.

I think it helps the people of Donbas, inside which Ukraine stopped paying pensions.  Russia would restore that if they became part of Russia.

As is always the case with armed conflict, it’s a question of whether the ends justify the means. How many worker lives is the “independence” of Donbas worth? And I put it in quotes because independence isn’t really the point, it’s that whether they reside within the West’s sphere of influence or Russia’s. During the Cold War you could make this argument much easier, because Russia had an ideological project to spread that (both theoretically and historically) bore fruit for the working class. There is no longer an ideological divide. It’s just changing the name on the Manager of Client State sign at the entrance of town.

Yes, they knew I was an American and that made many of them very interested in talking to me.

It was after they voted to rejoin Russia.

Again, if you have one tiny bit of evidence to say less than 95% of the people wanted to rejoin Russia, PLEASE share it.

Otherwise, I have the election results, many follow-up public opinion polls, and my own conversations with the locals, including people who said they didn't vote to rejoin Russia (but confirmed the election results were about right).

Why don't you watch from 15:30 - 18:40 of this video to hear another person's view about what he witnessed while he was in Ukraine.  Stop listening to CIA talking points.  If you disagree with anything he said, let's discuss it further.

What is the margin of error on n=50 in this case?

Can you define selection bias?

Is there any chance that selection bias played a role in the referendum under occupation or your own (extremely) informal interviews?

Right, I forgot votes only count when it is convenient for US foreign policy interests for them to count.

In all other cases, nobody is allowed to determine their own fate without the United States giving them permission.

That's the biggest issue with chopstick.  He lives in a place where he is allowed to question his government without repercussion.  The government he upholds as a moral standard bearer would imprison him and sentence to hard labor, maybe even poison his underwear for saying the same things about them if he was a citizen there.  I fully commit to funding his transportation to Russia if he agrees to stay there until death.

It depends on the confidence level you want.  If 50/50 tell me they believe the referendum results were accurate, it's theoretically possible that I bumped into the only 50 people out of the 2.3 million people in Crimea who that felt that way.

To answer your question, there is a 95% probability that my results were within 14%, and a 99% probability that they were within 18%.

And, my question was whether or not they felt the results were accurate, not what the actual election results were, so the margin of error only tells me what percentage of the population felt the results were accurate.

Meaning that since 50/50 (100%) of the people I spoke with told me they felt the results were accurate, there is a 99% probability that at least 82% of the general population believed they were accurate.

I went out of my way to talk to people from everywhere, including hotels, restaurants, buses, taxis, the beach, tours, etc.  I even spoke with Crimean Tatars, most of whom wanted to stay with Ukraine, but even they told me they believed the election results were accurate.

And again, we also have the post election polls, one of them sponsored by the United States which was quickly removed when the results showed the referendum results were accurate (I posted about this back in 2014, but couldn't find it just now).  But ignore that one; all the others show the same results.


Again to my earlier statment, "if you have one tiny bit of evidence to say less than 95% of the people wanted to rejoin Russia, PLEASE share it."  "I don't want to believe it" isn't much evidence.  :shrug:
