Hey hey

Is there anywhere I can try to snag a bit of myc to transfer. these are my only plates left from this batch of clones I want to run and test for strength. the gt fruit is 43g wet. bout 10 g heavier than anything in all 17.25 pounds.

I've saved myc from plates that looked like plate 2 before. Out of the flow of course.

Well hello there little fella. Got a 12qt shoebox knotting with the same culture so should be a good sign that it's a fruiter. May pluck this out and put it to Agar for isolation.

How long do y'all hold onto plates before tossing?

I do 12 weeks and then toss if they haven't pinned. Curious how long others hold onto them.

Today is a sad day boys. I just used my last 20g of agar to pour some plates I just ordered and I didn’t realize that half the sleeves that came in were broken. I was pouring my 2nd media bottles worth and pick up a broken plate lid. Looked at my other poured ones and then noticed like half the plates I poured all have cracks and chips on all the lids.

Should I be okay to use them? Anyway I can have Amazon just swap me a few sleeves instead of the whole package seeing as I’ve used like 40 already?

Just wait a few or more days to see if they start growing stuff. Likely most are fine especially if you poured your agar very hot. I find that although you get more condensation, pouring agar as hot as you can stand to, serves multiple purposes.  A few days pause shouldn't damper your gig too much.

Worst case scenario your plates are trash. My protocol would be, wait some days with fingers crossed. If sufficient time has passed and nothing unwanted has grown then I'd say it's safe to use them. I wouldn't use them for anything important even if they look good unless it is a last resort. If that is the case you can have more agar and dishes in time to clean up whatever you had to save.

Sounds like you likely have a bunch of good germ plates for iffy spores and testing ideas... :thumbup:

Broken plates are garbage.


My current case seems to be totally intact but the ones before I’d usually find like 5 broken ones as I went through the sleeves.


If you have that many smashed I’d try and get a refund. Its like getting a crushed lightbulb, just useless.

I read that wrong and thought only a couple were broken and it was just the sleeve that was compromised. Any cracked or broken plates are trash sorry.

All 3 of my T1 subtropicalis plates are turning out clean. It sure took a while for the mycelium to start growing on the new plates as seen by fluffy spheres surrounding the transfer wedges. These are 5 days old.
