He’s also implying that trump isn’t responsible for the economic situation. We’ve lost 40 million jobs because trump ignored and downplayed the threat of the virus, and he’s still doing it 125,000 dead people later. Americans are now pariahs around the world.

I still don't understand what Trump could have done to prevent the job losses.  Sure, he could have done a better job of having tests and respirators available, but the job losses are the result of the country actually doing something (keeping people home).  Can anyone please help me understand?

The entire economy is made up.  Rents, Debt repayment, Bills, almost everything could have been paused.  The difference could have been made up by printing money and handing it out.  Everyone keeps their jobs, their businesses don't go under, etc.  Granted, Trump couldn't just unilaterally make that happen but he could have advocated for something along those lines and it might have gone a long way.  Senate republicans are afraid of his base.  Obviously, that was never going to happen because trumpy is scum as are the senate and the house on both sides

That's a great suggestion, but I think there's no way Congress would have gone along with that.  In fact, it was proposed by Pramila Jayapal but she couldn't even get any establishment dems on her side.

Dont let anyone forget that the credit bureaus refused to give people a break for reporting delinquencies on their loans. You know, the same type of credit bureaus that gave AAA ratings to CDOs (which were complete junk) that led to the finicial crisis.

If you want to destroy the USA, Trump is the guy that will get it done. Religiously, expedtiously, MF is the emperor of incompetence, he has to be the avatar of some neolithic god of chaos.

There is no return trajectory for the economy after another shutdown - we all agree about that?

Well, that means we are looking at the progressive meltdown into a Mad Max or Gengis Khan type scenario

Depends what you mean by progressive, in this context. Yeah, but no.

It will still take quite a while for this shit show to go down the tubes. I could see a couple local areas going Mad Max.

Meh.  False dichotomy.  The system will change permanently, but that doesn't mean mad max.  This isn't the first time the world has seen permanent change.

What changes do you think will happen? With the economy folding federal taxes will stop being paid. No one will lend more money to a political structure that has no effective power to tax. When the federal layer is gone we will have states competing for resources and it can get ugly very quickly.

Of course I do not know what will happen but early stages of a complete meltdown would look just like what is unfolding - hospitals overflowing, riots, executive branch with the head up its arse, Xi or Putin ready to pay for more FB ads to keep the flames going...

It will be humbling to see the "US is falling apart" narrative in Iran's and China's public comms
