I would think the information WAS in the report.  But intelligence officials said the information in the report couldn't be verified, and therefore they didn't bother briefing it verbally to Trump (they know he doesn't read the reports).

"We found out Russia is giving money to the Taliban.  One of our intelligence officers thinks it might be to kill US troops.  But others think it might not be.  It might be money to help the Taliban defeat ISIS."

I think we need to wait for more information on this one, just like we did on Russia-Gate.

Agree with your assessment. So the end result is that, in the name of "public interest", GRU now know their money transfers are tracked and will change their systems, to the detriment of our abilities to track them in the future. If this is how we are wasting the intelligence advantages God help us ecause no one else will.

I think cannabinated's post said it best.  The US says it wants to get out of Afghanistan, and even if there's 100% chance that this story is true, that should only encourage us to get out faster, though the Rachel Maddows of the world are now beating the war drums for the koods of the world to dance to.

When I looked earlier today, the only evidence I could find that this story is true is that Russian money was found to be going to the Taliban, which we KNOW has been happening for a while now in the Taliban's fight against ISIS.  If there's more evidence than a wild guess based on someone's perception of Russia, please share.

If detailed evidence from intelligence operations ended up with NYT I would be terrified - not by the fact the story is true but by the nihilistic act of releasing it. On the other hand its apparent absence may simply mean that the leakers have some principles.

IMO he has already lost a growing segment of his party, and if he were to drop further in the polls, I think he wont even be the candidate, by mutual consent. The Republicans can smell blood in the water and they know it's theirs. The battleground states and control of the Senate are slipping out of their grasp. The downward trajectory is not choppy; it's going over the end of a cliff.

We aren't hearing anything about a V shaped economic recovery now.

The Republicans are going to jump the ship from Trump and that's getting more and more obvious everyday. None of this Russian nonsense even matters, it's all going to be Biden's baby in just a few months. 

The problem for the Republicans is that even if they attempt to disassociate themselves from Trump is that they still have no political platform. Republicans and Biden are one of the same- endorsement of the status quo.

Of course.  Most Republican Congressmen are establishment and want to keep the neocon dream of constant conflict alive so the military industrial complex thrives.

If the story were true, it wouldn't pass the bullshit test that Trump wasn't briefed.  But if it just someone's guess at what was going on, Trump probably wouldn't have been interested.

Those presidents loved conflict, and would welcome and CIA excuse to keep a good conflict alive.

It's fair to say, however, that after being President for over 3 years, Trump is fully responsible for any information that should have been given to him.  Whether he knew or not is irrelevant.  He's the President.  It's his job to know.
