Big monotub, about three inches of perlite. Nothing fancy. He always liked keeping it simple. I'm of the same mind when it comes to simplicity.

Thanks for the compliments!!

I certainly remember him! When I got started I spent nearly a year pulling apart every old post and grow of his on all 3 of the sites he frequented. Most of his Zapo/hoog posts on mycotek I have memorized due to all the times I have referenced them for my own work.

So much of my success is due to his posts, as well as those of Captainfuture and a few others. One day I hope to contact TCO and maybe get some spores so I can say that i'm working with his genetics.... like a fanboi

/endrant

Captain has some pretty awesome shit coming in so stay tuned:wink:

That's great news! I haven't had a chance to look him up yet. Not to off track but what about Stonesun, Blimeygrimey.. shit, the list goes on. Guess I'll sort it out as the rust comes off.

Stonesun has been gone for a couple years exploring the world, blimey doesn't come around these parts much anymore, RR doesn't come by much these days either bit checks in once in awhile, blue helix  pops by from time to time  but for the most part the old heads have moved on

He's like the anti-bear. Only comes out during winter. I remember he was one of the first to talk to me once I came out of the Lurk. Really good people. Glad to hear he's well.
Yeah, last I spoke to RR he was moving up north starting a mush farm or something to that effect. I mostly remember seeing a bunch of tore up land. Sunny always wanted to travel. Seems like I spoke to him before he took off. I kind of remember him saying something about it.
Life has just gotten in the way of most. Like Workman and a few others that I know for sure. Don't be surprised if a few pop back up. At least from time to time. This is one of the most addicting lifestyles one can lead. Sometimes it just takes a reset. Especially for forum staff. It can take a bigger toll than one would think.

Since it's a flashback, here's a few more older Zapo pics. For those having trouble with Zapos, this may be the easiest tek for success. It's basically a PF style jar with the dry verm layer replaced with a casing. I have yet to meet an exotic that won't fruit this way. Even Samui's though it wasn't very pic worthy lol.

Zaps seem to love brown rice. I have jar of straight rice that I am letting colonize for
two months just to make tea with. I think that jar colonized completely in under two
weeks.

By PF style do you mean it's BRF and verm?

There's a chance that one was hulled millet instead of brf, but both work. They'll grow on most grains. But yeah standard PFTek lol.

I found some pins of the Non-Papuana in one of my random casing tests!

Whenever I am mixing spawn and substrate I will often separate a few small samples of the mix and test some casings on em in some small loaf pans. This is one of those random tests that was placed in my GH. A GH that has been murdering everything I put in it so this was a surprise for sure.

The casing I was testing was a 50:50 Peat:Choir layer of casing that then had a 1/8" layer of clean construction sand. I usually don't like using choir in zapo related casing because it seems like the fruit cant push through the bound-up casing but with this species it worked. Substrate was the standard 50:50 manure:straw I usually use on cubes and subtrops.

This loaf pan is L5" x W3" x H2"
One half a cup of sub/spawn mixed on 10/18, set in fruiting conditions on 11/10 and first pins seen on 1/21.
Attempted to clone this one

You can see the smaller of the two here

This shot gives perspective about how tiny this all is.

These don't grow directly out of the substrate like a cube or subtrop/semp. Instead they grow like caerulescens where the Myc grows little threads that eventually peek up through the substrate and form a pin. So, like with Caerulescens, I am attempting to clone the pin and threads separate.

@Jake: Do we know what this species is yet?

@BB: What's your plan with the subs?

@Darkslide: That jar....

This tray continues to flush for well over a month! Completely resistant to contamination I can see mold buildup on the kratom  cloner below (cleaned tonight) And I know that any other Trey I would’ve placed in the same conditions would have been grossly contaminated by now. I’m coming up on 15 dry grams total harvest from about 2/3 quart of spawn. While I’ve gotten no where near a canopie my yield now is proving to be worth while. Still more coming up at the same rate. The first two harvests were the most dense, things slowed down a little bit after (pin formation) that but they have not declined again since then and it’s been several weeks
Very interesting myCory they do look the same so far! My incubation time on this ^ grow was 8 months but maybe it didn’t have to be.... I got more non pap (psilocybe aintyapapiences Lol)  spawn  rdy for bulk now so ho-ray 4 mush play!!
