Gypsycurse: I don't doubt  it. 50 is a bit much in my SAB even 20 gets a bit crowded, but then you gotta factor the number of plates that end up getting tossed because the spores just won't start for what ever reason, stuff that's just too contaminated to use or doesn't produce anything worth taking farther , not to mention just making up plates because 20Β°below snowing sideways and I realky should do something with those prints I traded for 6 months ago but never used, lol.

Media bottles (MEA mix or PDYA) i think are pretty useful. $16 but thats enough for many plates. Its my fav way to make agar.

I usually dont get off amazon (maybe i should) but usually the sponsor supply sites. I bet its cheaper via amazon, just was already in need of SFD's and some other crap

I've been weary of the knock offs, but I do have one already and it's been hit and miss so probably just misuse on my end.

Knocked up me millet jars tonight. Couple PE, couple APE, couple RW. Pulled out all the stops in my sterile precedure.
Gotta premake lids with them sdf slices. I kinda siliconed them to the lid about 30-40min before PC cycle. Kinda taped em on with paper pore tape also. See how well that goes.

Was different not dumping cut up pucks in jars. Jst circle cut around the myc, one cross cut, and poked all four pieces on my blade at once, pressed the wedges to the inside of the jar and drew away with the blade to release them. Felt pretty scientific, little more tideous. Couldnt help but put two pucks in each jar though. Dnt wanna wait forever.

So wats up with them blue cap bottles with the measurements on the side. You gotta drill a hole in the cap or does the cap come vented in some way?

"... The Corning size GL45 linerless replacement cap has a polypropylene body and a plug seal. .."    Wtf is a plug seal?

There is a filter in the cap, no need to modify

There isn't a filter in the GL45  cap. You don't need to modify it at all. Just leave the loose when you put it in the PC and wrap the cap/neck with foil. When you open the PC, tighten the cap.

You guys should read the reviews on the knockoff bottle you're linking. Go with Pyrex, IMO.

I had to change to sfd instead of polyfill and foil cuz water kept getting in my jars and fucking up me spawn.
Leaving the lid loose on anything in the pc and/or jst coving with foil sounds iffy to me now.
The 750ml liquor bottles i use never get water in them cuz the neck is so damn long. I can fit two in the pc at a time though.

Huh, thnx starclouds. Now i knw thats prolly not what i want haha

You must've had that Poly insanely loose. But regardless, don't PC your agar bottle with a tight cap.

Pyrex is just a brand of borosilicate glass, I’ve got pyrex kimex and these cheap bottles that just say boro, IME they all perform exactly the same

I think the doubt is that they're even borosilicate. And the manufacturing consistency.
I bought them, too. I haven't dipped them in mineral oil to confirm or deny the borosilicate makeup.
I'll say:
- They're thick glass. I've run them through the PC five times now. No breaks. I do make sure to either let them cool in the PC or only contact them with somewhat less hot water (probably still a ~100ΒΊF drop though...)
- 1 of 3 caps does not secure properly. It seems to be the cap, not the neck threading.
- The marked measurements seem to be accurate and consistent, only based off of a Pyrex brand measuring cup.
- I've had media sitting in one for over a month now. It has not contaminated.
- Time travel, I'd probably spend 3x more on a trusted brand.

I'm aware. footpath has outlined the issues if the Amazon reviews weren't enough.

Nope, i use quilted polyfill and pull that shit through 1/4" hole tight like the virgin Mary.

I will most certainly continue to pc my shit with a tight cap. That's how i been doing it sucessfully for over a year now and see no reason to change.

Okay, well I have no clue how you managed to flood your grain jars then. I'm referring to the unmodified GL45 caps that people are currently discussing, not your liquor bottle or whatever random shit you're using. Do you have a filter of some sort in your liquor bottle cap?

I have them, no issues so far. From the reviews it definitely seems like quality control is probably lacking, but I’m happy with my purchase overall and the two I’ve used have held up to multiple pc cycles and dont appear to leak from the seal. Wouldnt recommend cheap crap I hadnt at least tested out myself. As always ymmv
